Black Hat Society Breakfast

It's the last week of October 2020, and
I've noticed a lot of activity around here.

The girls, as I call them, you know,
members of the Black Hat Society,
have flown in to gather round the table.

They each have their own personality, and
rest assured, each one is a good witch,
ready to help with Halloween fun.

I was asked to style a Halloween table with elements
from my collection of French Quimper pottery.

Quimper pottery comes in various forms and decor,
though Halloween isn't a typical motif.

The antique witch plate is not in my collection, but it inspired this pair of
limited edition witch plates which were produced in 2010.

Join me for breakfast with "the girls".
Let's eat, drink, and be scary!"

We can start with a pumpkin muffin.

A mug of coffee or tea?

Sit and visit with these sweet girls
while I prepare our breakfast.

You might note the plates are not as detailed as the antique version,
yet I find them  charming for a touch of whimsy on the table.

A different witch and border on each plate.
Do you have a favorite?

I used my favorite black and white ruffled linens from
Crown Linen Designs as my base and layerd them
with a smaller ruffled black placemat, green rimmed charger,
and orange and black buffalo check napkins.
Silver flatware. with French ivory handles, is vintage.

Our dining room table is a dropleaf that opens to an oval.
It is not easy to find table linens that offer a good fit,
so generally I simply use placemats.
For this table, I wanted to repeat the orange and
black buffalo check, but my round cloth was too small.
What I did was lay it crosswise on the center of the table and then folded it to make pleats on either side of the center line.
I liked the look, especially the ruffle effect that was
a nod to the ruffled placemats and napkins.

My friend Rita @ Panoply  taught me how to
make these cute witch hat napkin folds.
You simply roll a ruffled napkin, slide down a ring,
and then fluff out the ruffle at the base to create the illusion of a brim.
They stand up perfectly and make the cutest witch hat!
Be sure to pop over to visit Rita where she shares beautiful tables.

Waffles with berries and whipped cream and
a side of sausage is the menu for the morning.

You will find previous posts on this group of ladies below.

Tablescape Thursday Celebrates 500th Post

This post celebrates Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch.
Congratulations on her 500th Tablescape Thursday!
I realize I'm a week late in sharing, but I definitely
want to celebrate this milestone with Susan.

When Susan celebrated her 500th Tablescape Thursday last week,
she asked her participants to share 5-10 of their favorite tables
created through the years that were shared at Tablescape Thursday.
If you missed last week, click here to view all the posts shared.

Susan's charming porch, is perfect for relaxing or dining.
Tablescape Thursday is the primary reason I started
HYACINTHS FOR THE SOUL
Thursdays suddenly became my favorite day of the week!
I wanted to play at the dish table too!
When I took a look at my blog stats, they indicated
that I've shared 146 times at Tablescape Thursday.

At the Table With the Traveling Totes
My love of dishes, setting a pretty table, and sharing with
others was my incentive to jump in and create my first posts.
Let's take a look back at a few of those 146 tables I've shared.
I invite you to revisit each post in full.
Just click each title to view the complete post.

Entertaining in our home is always a joy for me.
I'm forever daydreaming about table settings
and how I can make gatherings special.
My MacKenzie-Childs ceramics often
provide the seed of inspiration.
Alfresco May Day Lunch
This table was for an impromptu lunch when my cousin
stopped by for a visit on a beautiful day in May last spring.
It features an assortment of favorite MacKenzie-Childs pieces.
Still In Love
Still In Love ~ 38 Years and I'd Do It Again isn't a single tablescape, but rather snippets of various ways I've used our
Richard Ginori wedding china through the years.
This post was created in 2013, so today the title should read,
Still in Love ~ 43 Years and I'd Do It Again.
The elegant simplicity of white bone china rimmed in
bands of chocolate brown and gold, lends itself to a
variety of looks when paired with various other patterns.
It can easily be dressed up or down, a staple in the dish category.
Celebrate!
Another favorite china here at Hyacinths for the Soul is
Sacred Bird and Butterfly by Mottahedeh.
I was gifted a set of twelve of these beautiful plates by my
friend, Cherry Kay @ Entertaining Women and was thrilled
to use them as the star of this table set for a special luncheon
to celebrate my cousin, Karyn's 50th birthday.
Same plates were used for our Thanksgiving dinner in 2016,
paired with a collection of antique bread boards used as chargers.
Thank you, Cherry Kay, for the gift that keeps on giving!
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
I'm also a long time collector of Quimper and other French faience. On occasion, I like to feature pieces of our French pottery.
This table was set with our whimsical Quimper fish plates when a fellow Quimper Collector was visiting for the day.
Two Guys Named George                    Snowy Smiles
The tables above are tables for two, set out on the sunporch.
They are favorites because of the charming Mary Engelbreit Cherry dishes and the Snowy Smiles dishes that honor snowpeople.
Summer Blooms at Lazy Day Farms
I much appreciate the creativity of other tablescapers, so I'm always snapping photos when I see a table that inspires me.
This charmer was created by Marsha Smith of Cottonseed Trading out of Jacksonville, AL for a spring show @ Marburger Farm.
Circle of Friends
I'm also guilty of reaching into the cupboards to play with dishes when visiting friends.  Circle of Friends is one of those tables while at a friend's home in Santa Fe, NM.  It was fun to mix the variety of pottery found in the cupboards, especially the unique hand painted Mexican dishes with a different scene on each plate.
I thought it especially appropriate to include this table because I created it to recognize all the friendships made through
Tablescape Thursday.
It was originally posted on July 20, 2010,
in honor of Susan's 100th Tablescape Thursday, and here we
are now celebrating her 500th Tablescape Thursday!

Don't forget to stop by
where you'll find many wonderful posts
celebrating the art of the table.

Hello, Spring ~ A Blog Tour

Hello, Spring ~ A Blog Tour

A big thank you to

Katie @ Let's Add Sprinkles

for organizing and hosting our

Hello, Spring Blog Tour!

Welcome!

It's been a roller coaster of a winter,

but I do think spring is finally here.

Bluebonnets are blooming, and .   .   .

The tulips have popped up

to add some vibrant color to the garden.

Bunnies can

be seen hopping about.

You'll find them in the garden   .   .   .

Where flowers are beginning

to show their pretty faces.

Ahh .   .   .   Springtime in Texas!

The days are perfect for lounging on the

terrace in the warm sunshine   .   .   .

 Or perhaps a

sunny spot inside the house.

Those who know me, know of my

affinity for most animals, especially bunnies.

You're sure to see these little critters tucked here and there

around the house, much like they are out in the garden.

Herend bunnies gather on the shelves

in the living room.

These cuties too!

I seem to be attracted to the charm of

these little cast iron rabbits who have followed

me home through the years.

The standing bunny top right is the most recent.

The dealer said when she found him he was attached to an inkwell.

Evidently the ink well was in sad condition, but she

knew someone like me would give this little fellow a home.

This group fits right in among some of the leafy

pieces of my vintage majolica on the living room bookshelves.

This big guy with his load of baskets sits on the shelf above.

He is very special because he once belonged to a

good friend who is no longer with us.

The petite lapin with a basket of flowers on his back

was a gift from a friend who knows I like these little metal bunnies.

He is part of a vignette on the table in the kitchen sitting room.

The bowl is full of vintage rabbit cookie cutters,

and the jaunty rabbit on the stand was painted by a local artist.

Vignettes within the Irish pine cupboard in the

kitchen sitting room include some French faience bunnies.

The wool needle punch bag that hangs

on the door was an Etsy find.

created this darling bag using a Brenda Gervais design.

The work is exquisite, and I'm impressed with design's details.

Fresh cut flowers are a treat

that we give ourselves around here.

They don't have to be hyacinths to feed our souls.

A family of black and white majolica rabbits

sit among silver containers on the Welsh dresser in the dining room.

Last year I scrambled to get Easter things

out soon after Valentines Day.

You can see a complete post on my 2016 Easter table here.

This spring, with Easter still a month away,

I'm not yet ready to pull out the Easter decor.

A single vase of flowers is all that is on the table for now.

Over on the sideboard is a Courtly Check vignette

that hints of what's to come in April.

When I spotted this darling little chick in the

MacKenzie-Childs spring catalog, it was love at first sight.

I just knew the little chick would make a perfect

companion to the wonderful Courtly Check rabbit that

my "personal shoppers" found for me at the

MacKenzie-Childs' Barn Sale last summer.

Thank you, Debbie and Patti!

See these adorable little chicks?

They are one of a kind, painted for me by the talented

Patti @ Pandora's Box.

I'll soon share more about Easter touches

around the house in an upcoming post, so please come back soon.

Thanks for joining me today,
