Cottonseed Trading Company at Marburger Farms

Still roasting here in Texas, but we know its autumn
when it's time for Round Top Antiques Week

Marsha Smith, of Cottenseed Trading Company
created the unique corn cob wreath above.
Step into her booth with me and
take a look at her clever, artistic tablescapes
featured at the 2019 Fall Marburger Farm Show.

Marsha often has a long farm table at the front of the
booth dressed to welcome her shoppers.
This year's table offered place settings for four, set with simple details, including framed images of Hereford cattle.

An antique copper wash tub was filled with dried wheat,
catkins, sunflower pods, and orange pumpkins.

A vintage bible laid opened to Ecclesiastes.

Each place setting featured framed
black and white images of Hereford cows.
Sprigs of hay and a simple pine cone wrapped in a corn husk
were added for a rustic touch.

Interesting fixtures made from farm equipment hung above.

A second long farm table with long benches was set for five guests.
All of the pumpkins on this chippy white table were already sold.

Each of the place settings included
an open book atop a wooden bread board.
A stack of vintage plates held a feathered pumpkin.

You can count on Marsha to add whimsical,
unexpected details to her tables.
One has to smile at the vintage wire rimmed
spectacles added to each pumpkin.
The charming salad plates are Rosemary by Myott.

Marsha was very kind and sent me a photo
of this charming plate and the mark.
Wishing I had come home with these.
I love the colors for fall!

Eyeglass cases lined in velvet were laid
open to hold the vintage siverware.
Ivy from the centerpiece added an artistic
touch as it meandered across.

Wooden candlesticks, a stack of salad plates, and
additional cases with glasses gave varried interest to the potted ferns and ivy at the center.

Marsha's booth is a favorite of Marburger shoppers.
There is always a line at the cash register.
If you are attending the Marburger Farm show this week
stop by and say hello to Marsha and tell her I say, "Hello!"

Summer Blooms at Lazy Day Farms

It's mid July, and yes, I'm feeling lazy.

The Mad Tea Parties are scheduled for July 23rd,

but alas I've not set a table for this year's party.

Too hot to be outside, and life has filled

my schedule with other things.

Instead, I reached into my photo files while in the

comfort of my air conditioned home and pulled up this rather fun

Lazy Day Farms table to share this week.

I spied it last April in a booth at Marburger Farm.

This charming table was created by the very talented,

Marsha Smith of Cottonseed Trading Company

out of Jacksonville, AL.

The chippy white table with wooden folding chairs

looked right at home on the wood chip floor.

I admit, I was extremely tempted to snatch up

this vintage Lazy Day Farms truck.

It made such an adorable plant container!

I frequently wear a straw hat during the heat of summer.

As cute as these were, I already have plenty of my own,

but don't they add an adorable touch to this setting?

Rusty, vintage garden tools also appealed to this gardener,

even if they were past their prime for actual gardening duties.

Wouldn't it be fun to use these to decorate a potting shed?

I thought the vintage floral hankies tied

on the rusty tools were the perfect touch to soften

each of these simple place settings.

Each of the ironstone shallow bowls featured a darling

floral pincushion made from vintage quilt squares.

Lucky I snapped the photo when I did because

a buyer was ready to scoop these up to purchase.

Stems of carnations added both height and more color.

How simple to just pop a few stems in a vintage milk bottle.

A soft pillow in the wooden chair offered up a

bit of comfort as well as loads of charm

with its vintage seed packet motif.

Between the pillow and this vintage seed package display nearby,

it's no wonder that my mind drifted to thoughts

of one of my favorite summer bloomers

as I looked back on this garden themed table.

Each summer zinnias have offered a burst of

bright color to many summer gardens.

In my garden I have mixed zinnias among Dusty Miller,

a silvery lace-like plant that grows here year round.

Both frost and drought tolerant, with a soft furry texture,

I like the nice compliment to the bright colors.

Zinnias make excellent cut flowers

with their vibrant blooms and strong stems.

Cut a bouquet of zinnias, pop them into a favorite container,

and straightaway you have a burst of summer

color to enjoy in your home.

According to the LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS,

Zinnias are symbolic of "thoughts of an absent friend."

I like that thought!

Though I'll be absent as a party participant this year,

I look forward to all the fun that awaits.

U is for Unique Tablescapes

Unique ~

being only one of its kind;

 unlike anything else

The Annual Fall Round Top Antiques Week

offers a unique opportunity to see

an interesting assortment of vintage and antique items.

Uncommon objects, if you will!

I found myself snapping photos of the unique tablescapes

seen in many of the dealer booths this year at

Marburger Farm Antique Show.

Obviously these tablescapes are not

ones created for actual meals, but rather ones styled

to show case items for sale and to draw

perspective buyers into the booths to shop,

though the inspiration gleaned is notable.

The large chicken feeder filled with natural

elements and used as a centerpiece could easily translate

to one's own farm table as would the idea of

vintage bottles used as candlesticks.

Another dealer was selling these

vintage metal gauge plates.

As well as these interesting

vintage blue glass bottles.

This table immediately caught my eye with

its pops of blue, the feathers, the brown transfer ware

paired with white ironstone, wonderful old silver flatware,

and the clever use of the gauge plates.

Then later, the table above must have sold,

so the dealer recreated the tablescape onto this chippy blue table.

Love the addition of the paper placemats.

Did you notice the clever use of the individual pages

from the 1800s hymnal?

Simplicity here with the various wooden mallets

to accent the vintage white ironstone plates.

This glass top table setting incorporated rustic touches

of vintage almanacs from the 1800s and

an assortment of vintage flatware

presented in little burlap bags.

A touch of glamor with shabby chic

for this table that featured

a mix of seashells and shed antlers.

Notice the feather decor atop the white pumpkin.

Vintage hymnals with baby pumpkins

added a touch of seasonal color to this old farm table,

while the vintage wooden horse was the obvious focus.

How clever this display is!

The simplicity of the bare table and minimal

use of objects drew my attention to the old whisk brooms

with their garlands of dried seed pods.

Love this idea for a centerpiece vignette for fall.

Yes, the creative talent of the dealers that show at

Marburger Farm Antique Show never disappoints.

The above table is one from years ago,

but continues to remain one of my all time favorites.
