Autumn Tableau



It's the end of September, and yet day after day
the temps reach into the high 90s or above.


 This September has been the hottest ever on record for Austin, 
but I'm like a squirrel gathering nuts, as I gather up a few
of my own things to add a touch of fall here at
home despite the summer-like weather. 


These vibrant fresh cut flowers from Petals Ink 
at the Farmer's Market and a mixed bouquet from Trader Joe's,
inspired me to create a vignette on the terrace to trick
our minds into thinking perhaps it's a crisp fall day outdoors.


I'm always inspired by my dear friend Janice at Fig and Twigs.
Janice's floral creations are pure magic and full of whimsy.
Her flowers appear to dance in the container, so, Janice,
loose and floppy was my goal!

A pair of faux Jarrahdal pumpkins were 
a favorite HomeGoods find last fall.
The darling squirrel carved from wood was a gift
from a thoughtful friend years ago.


I added an older piece of MacKenzie-Childs, a covered box from the Maclachlan Series that features beautiful scenes 
of the MacKenzie-Childs farm in Aurora, NY.
The pair of tapestry pillows plopped in the arm chairs 
were souvenirs from Chateau de Chenonceau of the Loire Valley.
Hopefully the mosaic above offers a sense of the 
whimsy in the details of these pieces.


I pulled a shawl from my 
closet for added color.



Here's to cooler days ahead!

At the Table With the Traveling Totes

Summertime and the livin' is easy .
The Traveling Tote team decided to challenge "our girls"
to a little help on the tabletop this summer.

Hello, Spring ~ A Blog Tour

Welcome!

 It's been a roller coaster of a winter,

 but I do think spring is finally here.




Bluebonnets are blooming, and .   .   .




The tulips have popped up

to add some vibrant color to the garden.





Bunnies can 

 be seen hopping about.




You'll find them in the garden   .   .   .




Where flowers are beginning 

 to show their pretty faces.




Ahh .   .   .   Springtime in Texas!




The days are perfect for lounging on the

 terrace in the warm sunshine   .   .   .





 Or perhaps a  

 sunny spot inside the house.




Those who know me, know of my

affinity for most animals, especially bunnies.

You're sure to see these little critters tucked here and there

 around the house, much like they are out in the garden.




Herend bunnies gather on the shelves

 in the living room.





 These cuties too!

 I seem to be attracted to the charm of

these little cast iron rabbits who have followed 

 me home through the years.

 The standing bunny top right is the most recent.

 The dealer said when she found him he was attached to an inkwell.

 Evidently the ink well was in sad condition, but she

knew someone like me would give this little fellow a home.


This group fits right in among some of the leafy


pieces of my vintage majolica on the living room bookshelves.


This big guy with his load of baskets sits on the shelf above.

 He is very special because he once belonged to a 

 good friend who is no longer with us.



 The petite lapin with a basket of flowers on his back


was a gift from a friend who knows I like these little metal bunnies.




He is part of a vignette on the table in the kitchen sitting room.

The bowl is full of vintage rabbit cookie cutters,

and the jaunty rabbit on the stand was painted by a local artist.



Vignettes within the Irish pine cupboard in the 

 kitchen sitting room include some French faience bunnies.

The wool needle punch bag that hangs 

 on the door was an Etsy find.



created this darling bag using a Brenda Gervais design.

The work is exquisite, and I'm impressed with design's details.



 Fresh cut flowers are a treat

 that we give ourselves around here.

 They don't have to be hyacinths to feed our souls.














A family of black and white majolica rabbits 

sit among silver containers on the Welsh dresser in the dining room.




Last year I scrambled to get Easter things 

 out soon after Valentines Day.  

 You can see a complete post on my 2016 Easter table here.





This spring, with Easter still a month away,

 I'm not yet ready to pull out the Easter decor.

 A single vase of flowers is all that is on the table for now.





Over on the sideboard is a Courtly Check vignette 

 that hints of what's to come in April.





When I spotted this darling little chick in the

 MacKenzie-Childs spring catalog, it was love at first sight.



 I just knew the little chick would make a perfect 

 companion to the wonderful Courtly Check rabbit that 

 my "personal shoppers" found for me at the

 MacKenzie-Childs' Barn Sale last summer.

Summer Blooms at Lazy Day Farms



It's mid July, and yes, I'm feeling lazy.

The Mad Tea Parties are scheduled for July 23rd,

but alas I've not set a table for this year's party.

Too hot to be outside, and life has filled

my schedule with other things.





Instead, I reached into my photo files while in the

comfort of my air conditioned home and pulled up this rather fun  

 Lazy Day Farms table to share this week. 

I spied it last April in a booth at Marburger Farm.

This charming table was created by the very talented,

Marsha Smith of Cottonseed Trading Company

out of Jacksonville, AL.





The chippy white table with wooden folding chairs

looked right at home on the wood chip floor.





I admit, I was extremely tempted to snatch up

this vintage Lazy Day Farms truck.

It made such an adorable plant container!





I frequently wear a straw hat during the heat of summer.

As cute as these were, I already have plenty of my own,

but don't they add an adorable touch to this setting?





Rusty, vintage garden tools also appealed to this gardener,

even if they were past their prime for actual gardening duties.

 Wouldn't it be fun to use these to decorate a potting shed?





I thought the vintage floral hankies tied

on the rusty tools were the perfect touch to soften 

each of these simple place settings.





Each of the ironstone shallow bowls featured a darling

floral pincushion made from vintage quilt squares.

Lucky I snapped the photo when I did because

a buyer was ready to scoop these up to purchase.





Stems of carnations added both height and more color.

How simple to just pop a few stems in a vintage milk bottle.





A soft pillow in the wooden chair offered up a

bit of comfort as well as loads of charm 

with its vintage seed packet motif.




Between the pillow and this vintage seed package display nearby,

it's no wonder that my mind drifted to thoughts 

of one of my favorite summer bloomers

as I looked back on this garden themed table.





Each summer zinnias have offered a burst of 

bright color to many summer gardens.





In my garden I have mixed zinnias among Dusty Miller,

 a silvery lace-like plant that grows here year round.

Both frost and drought tolerant, with a soft furry texture, 

I like the nice compliment to the bright colors.





Zinnias make excellent cut flowers

 with their vibrant blooms and strong stems.





Cut a bouquet of zinnias, pop them into a favorite container,

 and straightaway you have a burst of summer 

 color to enjoy in your home.





According to the LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS,

 Zinnias are symbolic of "thoughts of an absent friend."

 I like that thought!



Though I'll be absent as a party participant this year,

  I look forward to all the fun that awaits.
