Tablescape Thursday Celebrates 500th Post

This post celebrates Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch.
Congratulations on her 500th Tablescape Thursday!
I realize I'm a week late in sharing, but I definitely
want to celebrate this milestone with Susan.

When Susan celebrated her 500th Tablescape Thursday last week,
she asked her participants to share 5-10 of their favorite tables
created through the years that were shared at Tablescape Thursday.
If you missed last week, click here to view all the posts shared.

Susan's charming porch, is perfect for relaxing or dining.
Tablescape Thursday is the primary reason I started
HYACINTHS FOR THE SOUL
Thursdays suddenly became my favorite day of the week!
I wanted to play at the dish table too!
When I took a look at my blog stats, they indicated
that I've shared 146 times at Tablescape Thursday.

At the Table With the Traveling Totes
My love of dishes, setting a pretty table, and sharing with
others was my incentive to jump in and create my first posts.
Let's take a look back at a few of those 146 tables I've shared.
I invite you to revisit each post in full.
Just click each title to view the complete post.

Entertaining in our home is always a joy for me.
I'm forever daydreaming about table settings
and how I can make gatherings special.
My MacKenzie-Childs ceramics often
provide the seed of inspiration.
Alfresco May Day Lunch
This table was for an impromptu lunch when my cousin
stopped by for a visit on a beautiful day in May last spring.
It features an assortment of favorite MacKenzie-Childs pieces.
Still In Love
Still In Love ~ 38 Years and I'd Do It Again isn't a single tablescape, but rather snippets of various ways I've used our
Richard Ginori wedding china through the years.
This post was created in 2013, so today the title should read,
Still in Love ~ 43 Years and I'd Do It Again.
The elegant simplicity of white bone china rimmed in
bands of chocolate brown and gold, lends itself to a
variety of looks when paired with various other patterns.
It can easily be dressed up or down, a staple in the dish category.
Celebrate!
Another favorite china here at Hyacinths for the Soul is
Sacred Bird and Butterfly by Mottahedeh.
I was gifted a set of twelve of these beautiful plates by my
friend, Cherry Kay @ Entertaining Women and was thrilled
to use them as the star of this table set for a special luncheon
to celebrate my cousin, Karyn's 50th birthday.
Same plates were used for our Thanksgiving dinner in 2016,
paired with a collection of antique bread boards used as chargers.
Thank you, Cherry Kay, for the gift that keeps on giving!
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
I'm also a long time collector of Quimper and other French faience. On occasion, I like to feature pieces of our French pottery.
This table was set with our whimsical Quimper fish plates when a fellow Quimper Collector was visiting for the day.
Two Guys Named George                    Snowy Smiles
The tables above are tables for two, set out on the sunporch.
They are favorites because of the charming Mary Engelbreit Cherry dishes and the Snowy Smiles dishes that honor snowpeople.
Summer Blooms at Lazy Day Farms
I much appreciate the creativity of other tablescapers, so I'm always snapping photos when I see a table that inspires me.
This charmer was created by Marsha Smith of Cottonseed Trading out of Jacksonville, AL for a spring show @ Marburger Farm.
Circle of Friends
I'm also guilty of reaching into the cupboards to play with dishes when visiting friends.  Circle of Friends is one of those tables while at a friend's home in Santa Fe, NM.  It was fun to mix the variety of pottery found in the cupboards, especially the unique hand painted Mexican dishes with a different scene on each plate.
I thought it especially appropriate to include this table because I created it to recognize all the friendships made through
Tablescape Thursday.
It was originally posted on July 20, 2010,
in honor of Susan's 100th Tablescape Thursday, and here we
are now celebrating her 500th Tablescape Thursday!

Don't forget to stop by
where you'll find many wonderful posts
celebrating the art of the table.

Snow in Texas, Y'all!

Yes, Mother Nature surprised us
Thursday night with snow in Texas.

We had only a dusting here at Hyacinths for the Soul,
but for my family in and around Texas,
many woke to a winter wonderland.

My niece lives near Houston and took this
video of her horses on this snowy day.
They don't seem to mind at all!

Sadie, on the other hand,
didn't much care her morning walk.

Back in the warmth of our home, I decided to reach back into the archives and share a previous snowy day tablescape.
This post was previously shared here in 2014.

It's cold and blistery outside,
so come on in and warm up by the fire.

I've set a table for us on the sun porch
where we'll be warm and comfortable.

These cheerful fellows are so
happy you have joined us today.

They've actually been patiently waiting
for their turn to be featured on a tablescape.

Salad plates, designed by Williraye Studio,
are called "Snowy Smiles".

To pull out the red and yellow colors
of "Snowy Smilies" I used a yellow dinner plate
for one setting and a red one for the other.
The Courtly Check chargers mimic
the border of the salad plates.

The snow people thought these colorful glasses
with etched "snowballs" were a good choice.

Along with the "Treble Clef"
flatware with its curled shape.

White winter berries ring
the napkins which are edged in lace.

The delicate lace designs remind me of
the little snowflakes of the "Snowy Smiles" plates.

I layered various textiles
to give the table a cozy feel.

These are actually vintage tea towels
which are large enough to use as
tablecloths on my small drop leaf table.

Both have fringed ends, and the largest of the two
has rows of red check details at either end.

The other has wonderful textural details
and end borders of this red design.

The napkins are actually
beautiful little hand towels.

I wanted you to feel warm and cozy, so
I pulled in a couple of my French provencal
pillows to use as chair cushions.

Layers of rich colors
highlighted with my favorite
black and white checks
warm my heart.

Even the snow people
are happy to be inside today.

So pull up a chair and join me
for a light lunch and a little conversation.

We can talk about your plans
for the holidays and the new year.

Perhaps you have a few garden tips to share,
a fun new project in the works,
or travel plans to some fabulous destination.
Have you finished your holiday shopping and cooking?
If you celebrate Christmas, is your tree up and decorated?

I'm eager to hear all your news!

Table Talk ~ Galentine's Day

Valentine's Girlfriends' Dinner Party ~ 2017
Those of you who follow along here at Hyacinths for the Soul
may remember that a group of my girlfriends
formed a small dinner group in the early 1980s.
We gather for dinner to celebrate
 birthdays, holidays, or just because.

Monday evening, February 13th, we celebrated
Valentine's 2017 with dinner here.
I read that February 13th is Galentine's Day.
I had to google to see what that is.
~ Galentine's Day ~
I'd say that's exactly what we celebrated this year.

Last year I had great fun mixing my
MacKenzie-Child's Courtly Check
with a Queen of Hearts theme for a CAMEO meeting in our home.
You can read about this table here.

I wanted to do something different this year,
yet retain the same theme,
using both the black and white
and the Queen of Hearts.

I gathered my group of Queen of Hearts
figures on a tray for my centerpiece.

Patience Brewster's regal Queen was there, along
with Hop Hopping Boo's tall, skinny whimsical gal.

Lori Mitchell's darling Queen of Hearts
joined my collection this year.

As did this miniature version of Pier I's larger
Queen of Hearts that came home with me last year.
This petite lady has dangly legs, so I propped her on the edge
of the valentine tin used as a cache pot.

It's always fun to see the different artists'
creative interpretation of the Queen of Hearts.
Allen Cunningham's on the left,
and Mary Engelbreit's on the little box.

I set the table with black and white dishes
and a good helping of brilliant gold.
I thought it looked pretty regal!

Quilted red placemats with a scalloped edge anchored the stack.

Crystal Dessert Stem ~ Maker Unknown
Crystal Wine Stem ~ Crystal D'Arques
Flatware ~ Sir Christopher by Wallace

At the brilliant suggestion of my sweet friend,
dinner was a one dish meal of
Baked Chicken Milanese with Arugula and Tomatoes.
Sweet Potato Cornbread Muffins
made in heart shaped tins were served on the side.
Thank you, Monique!
Dinner was delicious, healthy, and "kitchen friendly".
I highly recommend both of these recipes
which can be found Here and Here.

For dessert I offered each their own regal cookie crown
along side a Table Talk spoon.

The Table Talk spoons sparked a bit of fun
and lively discussion after dinner to stir up our conversation.

I selected six different questions from the box of 30.
Available here.

A hostess can select the questions of choice,
or one could simply put the spoons in a container
and have each guest draw out a spoon to answer.

Either way these conversation starters will
offer a lively conversation.

Would you rather take tea
with Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks?

What is your most guilty pleasure?

Miss Sadie and I wish you a very
Happy Valentine's Day!
