The tradition of the Easter Bunny can be traced back centuries, but one thought is that German immigrants who settled in the Pennsylvania Dutch area brought with them the tradition of Osterhase, the hare
who gifted well behaved children brightly colored eggs.
By the 1800s, the chocolate Easter bunny became
popular and is now ubiquitous with celebrating Easter.
Today is April Fool's Day, a day for practical jokes and tricks.
What better way to fool my guests than with chocolate bunnies.
What say you, real or faux?
Like most, chocolate bunnies have always been a favorite for me,
so it should come as no surprise that I've got quite a fluffle.
A fluffle of faux chocolate bunnies!
Hollow and made with special molds,
some can be very detailed.
This one that sits on an egg box
can be filled with extra treats.
These smaller, simpler
bunnies are more typical.
This one comes toting it's own basket.I slipped in an ivy for a touch of nature.
Vintage chocolate molds were made of steel or copper and coated with tin or nickel.
Many are still in use today, though plastic and
silicone have often replaced the older style.
Click here to watch Bromillows Chocolates make chocolate bunnies using an 80 year old chocolate mold.
For the centerpiece I used a vintage brown wicker tray, covered it in grass, and then added foil covered chocolate bunnies and special Easter eggs that I've collected through the years.
At some point, chocolate bunnies and eggs began to be offered covered in shiny colored foil.
My Mr. and Mrs. are 10" tall with wonderful detail.
The children are only 4 inches tall.
The two Chinoiserie eggs are actual emu eggs.
They were hand painted by blogger/instragramer, Pippa Goetz,
the first years she was offering these unique eggs.
I can't find that she is currently marketing these beautiful eggs.
The larger decoupaged egg was made by Patti Bartolo.
The center cameo eggs top and bottom are from Michaels this season. The center egg is from MacKenzie-Childs a few years ago.
This set of whimsical plates purchased at Pier I years ago
were the inspiration for my plate stack.
These cuties were made in China and
produced exclusively for Pier I.
I sure do miss that store!
The earth tones in these salad plates set my color pallet.
in neutral linen, topped with square spring green
linen placemats which I've owned for decades.

Do you agree?
I set a table with the same feel of fresh greens

Rabbit Rabbit Sarah! 🐇 I adore seeing your wonderful collections of bunnies and eggs, real or faux! ReplyDeleteI love all of your faux chocolate bunnies. They certainly look real to me, so much so, that I wanted desperately to bite the ears off of one of them. Easter certainly is not Easter without a chocolate bunny or two. I don’t know that I’ve seen faux chocolate bunnies around here, but I’m going to have a look because I would love to incorporate something like that in a table for the future. Well done!
