Today's post focuses on The Golden Vibes of Sunflowers.Summers here in Austin are notoriously hot,which makes sunflowers a fitting bloom all summer.Join me on the terrace for my favorite summer indulgence~ classic peach ice cream ~ and let's talk about sunflowers.
Other than the occasional volunteer sunflower plant grownas a gift from a bird that dropped a seed, I don't grow my own sunflowers.Arnosky Family Farms in Blanco is a favorite local source.
Arnosky Family Farms has fields and
fields of beautiful seasonal flowers.
Sunflowers grow tall and strong, on average 3-10 feet with sturdy rough, hairy stems. Their deep taproots need lots of room, so they arebest grown in the ground rather than containers.
They thrive in full sun all day, are drought
tolerant, and bloom summer into autumn.
The vibrant yellow of the flower petals
make me think of the energy of the sun.
We enjoy sunflowers as a staple in our home summer into autumn because they are a great price for fresh cut blooms and arereadily available at local shops and farmer's markets.
A simple bloom as garnish on a serving plate is a fun touch.
My Baja bouquet today is a product of Mexico,
sold at our local Central Market.
Bachelor Button Daisy, China Aster Bellflowers, and Purple Statice are mixed in for added color.
As much as I like to fill a vase with just sunflowers,
I do like the pop of extra color for a table setting.
The extra color helps tie in with my MacKenzie-Childs dish stack.
Along with these cute, tasty cookies by Haley's, a local bakery.
If you like peach ice cream, I have a secret so
lean in and listen closely. . .
Chick-fil-A sells delicious peach milkshakes
during the summer season.
A friend introduced me to this tasty
treat several summers ago.
She also taught me to buy them and then
keep them in the freezer to scoop as ice cream.
The Texas hill country is also known for their peach orchards.Nothing like fresh Texas peaches, so help yourself and add more to your scoops.

Good morning, Sarah 🌻 How lovely to be welcomed to your terrace for Monday Morning Blooms! I know how hot Austin can be as we visited several years ago for business. I love the photo of you in front of the sunflower farm. There is nothing more eye-catching than a field of sunflowers🌻🌻 The watering can is charming with the Baja bouquet. Of course, the MacKenzie-Childs dish stack is lovely as is the cookie, yum! I would go to Chick-fil-A during summer to buy my sweet Daddy those peach milkshakes. Often I would buy two in order to freeze one for later. Peaches are the best summer fruit. We visited the Alabama Peach Park a couple of weeks ago for fried peach pies and peach ice cream.

It is also "sunflower season" here in CNY - I always enjoy seeing your tables, especially the ones on your patio!. You always post the prettiest cookies too (my favorite food!!!). Peaches are slowly ripening here, can't wait!

ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, You certainly have pretty vignettes showcasing your sunflowers. I did grow them once when we were at the other house but easier for me to pick them up at my local farmer's market now. The sweet treats look so pretty and I'm sure delicious. Hope you are staying cool during all this summer heat! Looking forward to cooler temps here..........hugs.

ReplyDeleteHi Sarah!!! What a fun post. Oh aren't sunflowers the neatest? And you look snazzy in that pic. ♥ My hubs loves him a Chic-fil-A sandwich and I am soooooooo going to try a peach shake now. I LOVE peach ice cream and love the idea of freezing for later - I cannot drink an entire milkshake anyway so that's a great hint! Thanks for the idea! IO grew up in peach growing area too - they love the limestone infused soil - though many are gone now and made into golf courses. (sniff sniff) but I grab them whenever I am visiting the lake home I grew up in. Now I am craving peaches!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSarah, visiting your August Monday Morning blooms certainly puts a smile on my face! I love sunflowers but, like you, don't intentionally grow them, have only had volunteers from birds dropping their seeds. Your M-C dishes are such a perfect pairing for the florals. That CFA peach milkshake is delicious, and I love the idea of freezing it for scooping! I've been enjoying market white peaches the past few weeks. My local flower farmer is starting to share bouquets of sunflowers and it certainly is a fun way to get fresh blooms and support local farmers.

So pretty Sarah and I always look forward to your MKC pieces. They are beautifully enhanced with all your sunflower arrangements. I favor sunflowers as I am originally from Kansas and they are our state flower so they grow wild along bar ditches and in fields and are considered a nuisance by some gardeners. I've always heard 'one man's treasure could be another man's trash'...but I LOVE sunflowers. Your specialty cookie is so cute and what a great tip on chick-fil-A's peach milkshakes.
