All Hallow's Eve and a Look at November 2016

November 1st and 2nd

~ All Saints Day ~ Day of the Dead ~

This holiday follows on the first two days immediately

after Halloween or All Hallows' Eve.

All Saints Day is a Christian holiday to honor all saints, and

Dia de Muertos or Day of the Dead

is a Mexican holiday celebrated

by many Hispanics who live in the US,

especially here in the southwest.

It is a day of prayer and remembrance

of family and friends who are deceased.

Come back to visit on Tuesday

to read more about this cultural holiday.

November 6th  ~  Daylight Saving Time

Time to Fall Back!

Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour.

November 8th ~ Election Day

Election Day in the United States is set to be

on the Tuesday immediately following the first Monday

of the month of November in even numbered years.

US Presidential elections are held every four years,

and elections for the US House of Representatives

and the US Senate are held every two years.

November 11 ~  Veterans Day

November 11 is a day to honor all who have

served in the United Armed Forces.

Team Red, White, and Blue

is an organization founded in recent years to

help enrich the lives of veterans.

The mission of the organization is to connect veterans with citizens

of their communities through physical and social activities.

November 24th  ~  Thanksgiving Day

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day

is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November.

A national holiday, it is a day when family and friends

typically come together in thanksgiving to celebrate

the blessings of the previous year.

How will you spend Thanksgiving Day this year?

Are you ready for Halloween?

Mom says Miss Merri Mac will hold lots of treats,

so if you see me at your door Monday evening,

I especially like peanut butter balls.

Just saying!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

  2. Turning the page yet again, it is hard to conceive of 2016 being almost over....except, of course, when it comes to political mudslinging. From that perspective, it has seemed an eternity. I'm not sure what I'm most afraid of - ghouls on Halloween, or ghouls on Election Day. All Saints' Day was always a treat, growing up Catholic. We always got the day off after trick or treating as a holy day, and could eat candy after mass, while many of our neighborhood friends who went to public schools had to be in session. :) Another wonderful collection of reminders, Sarah. Cheers to a new month!

  3. I'm pretty sure Thanksgiving this year is November 24th not the 28th. I am ready for Trick or Treaters if we get 40 or less. YIKES. Since it's suppose to rain maybe we will only get 40. I'll have to ask our favorite Mexican waitress on Tuesday what she does for the Day of the Dead. Have a good Sunday and rest of the week!

  4. Sarah,
Another wonderful month of celebrations. Marburger's silver tray of old watches is eye-catching. I would have had to stop and touch at least five or six of them. Pinned this photo to my Pinterest Board, Round Top Antique Week.

My brother's church had a Halloween party Saturday night. We decorated our car trunks to hand out candy... Trunk or Treat.

  5. Thanks so much for all the great things that happen in November. I would have been married 59 years on 11/2/1957, oh so long ago. He has passed on, but he still was the love of my life.

    Happy Halloween Sarah.

  17. We'll be passing out candy tonight, and will do our annual count of children coming to the door. We usually have about 125. Looks like Miss Merri Mac is perfect for holding the treats. I wish Sadie could come to our door tonight as I'd surely have some peanut butter balls ready. Another wonderful collection of reminders, Sarah. Cheers to November!

  20. Hard to believe it is time to turn yet another month on the calendar. November is a time to reflect and give thanks for so much. Not sure if we'll be serving up the turkey here or traveling. It's also time to start unpacking treasures packed away for Christmas. Hope you find lots of peanut butter balls in Miss Merri Mac to enjoy this Halloween Sarah.

  27. That tray of pocket watches is so amazing! Such a collection! Halloween is now over (yay!) and we already celebrated Thanksgiving here, so I'm thinking about a quieter November (we do commemorate Remembrance Day on the 11th) and some early Christmas preparations.

  28. I love the tray of pocket watches Sarah and I'd love to shop at Marburger Farm Antique Show one day! November makes me weary thinking of how quickly the holidays are approaching and I'm not ready to fall back and lose and hour of daylight. Love seeing Miss Sadie in her Halloween sweater, hope she enjoyed a few treats! ♥

  33. Aww, Sarah, if I found Miss Sadie at my door I would give her all the peanut butter balls she wanted! I'm a bit behind this month as it's already the 6th and I'm just getting to your post but I always enjoy your monthly round-up of events. The Day of the Dead is such an intriguing holiday! Looking forward to reading more. I'm always amazed at the selection of items you show us from the Marburger Farm Show. I must get there someday. Our plans are uncertain for Thanksgiving as the three kids will all be away in Brazil at a wedding. The friends who usually join us are also traveling! Time to change our routine I guess! Linda
