Long my favorite season, I eagerly embrace the palette
of warm, earthy colors that begin to appear in
the foliage and landscapes.
It's just me now, so I often set a table for one out on our terrace.
Today it is set with some of the Torquay ceramics
mid 1990s to the early 2000s.
Torquay is a a seaside resort area in Great Britain
and was the inspiration for the Torquay pattern.
I selected it as a nod to my transition from coastal into fall.
Torquay was produced in four different color ways,
and this pattern is one of my favorite color ways,
Frank and Mustard.
The undersides of the pieces are a conbination of
yellow dots and flower transfers.
I like the right angles, the bold stripes, and the checkerboard decorated with roses.
The salt and pepper is definitely a statement piece!
Each canister sits on this tray painted in faux
marble of the Cheltenham pattern.
The mugs are some of my favorites for the way they sit atop the angular pedestal.
are a perfect fit for this setting.
As is the Courtly Check ceramic flatware.
Do you agree this color way is
a perfect fit with autumn?
The table linen, Vendage, is also vintage MacKenzie-Childs. Vendage is French in origin and refers to the season of harvest.
I layered it with Courtly Check place mats and a natural burlap pleated round for extra texture and to
soften the angular plate stack.
I filled our Great Vase with a
bouquet from Trader Joe's.
The variety of purples and oranges
signaled Autumn to me.
I like the soft cream of the roses and pops of green buttons.
I placed the vase on our special Victoria and Richard thistle bread board that the couple offered a few years ago.
It's one of my favorite breadboards, ever!
I added a fall quilt to the back of the chair. Not needed, just wishful thinking and a
nod to crisp, cool mornings ahead.
Joining me across the table is Mortimer who likes to sip his morning coffee and share tales of his nightly flights.
Rita has been hosting these tablehops for the past five years.
I took a look back on previous autumn tables I set for the hops.
Each one celebrates the colors of the season, but each is styled
with different details of linens, dishes, glassware, and centerpieces.

Welcome, Autumn, the Richest of Seasons
Oh my everything is gorgeous! I love the black and white checkerboard a the bold stripes and Mr. Owl having a cup of tea!! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSarah, what beautiful table service for one, although Mortimer is nearly stealing the show! Oh my, he's so handsome. Love the Torquay, especially those mugs, they're quite the artisanship. The layers are in perfect harmony with the outdoors, and yes, we're seeing leaves falling from our neighbors' trees into our yard already. The Verdage cloth with the burlap placemat is really nice. I also bought the pattern in napkins and a runner several years ago. The thistle bread board is stunning! I agree with you and the nice way the corners of the bowls have a mitered effect, very expertly painted. Five years?! Just the teaser photos of each of your posts indicate just the tip the breadth of your M-C collections alone! THank you, Sarah, for sharing your beautiful collections and table styling talents in these blog hops! I love your company.
ReplyDeleteSarah, I would gladly sip tea with Mortimer--adore him and your other whimsical accents! You have the loveliest MC collection and I always enjoy visiting your charming tablescapes!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Sarah. I showed Butch your post and that you had shared his quote, he was most grateful! I love the Torquay and its warm and earthy colors which makes a wonderful transition from coastal to fall. I agree the S & P is definitely a statement piece that is highlighted on the faux marble tray. Courtly Check flatware and Arte Italica Crown Linen napkins are perfect for the vintage MacKenzie-Childs tablecloth. The natural burlap placemats add a layer of texture and the TJ flowers finish your stunning tabletop!
ReplyDeleteIt is always a pleasure to view your curated collections and how you style them flawlessly! Wishing you a joy-filled autumn!
I adore your table for one! McKenzie Child pieces always add an element touch of whimsy to a table and this Torquay pattern is no exception! The colours are gorgeous. I like how you have added a bit of texture and natural element with the placemats. Mortimer looks like he is great company too!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful table Sarah. Love the Vendage tablecloth with the ruffled burlap placemats. I have both of those items. I also have the MKC flatware which is quite striking. The MKC Great Vase is lovely with your Trader Joe's blooms. Your Torquay ceramics are quite the show stopper, such a beautiful pattern. The mugs are so special with their pedestals. Mortimer is quite the character and fits in nicely for this fall table. The Victoria & Richard carved thistle breadboard is beautiful. Always a pleasure to join you Sarah.
ReplyDeleteSO rich and vibrant, Sarah – I love this table!! You’ve chosen perfect flowers and a wonderful tablecloth to compliment them. Really luscious! I love those roses in the pattern too. They’re such a pretty juxtaposition to the graphic checkered design. I really need to dig into Makenzie Childs more – thanks for the gentle nudge in that direction! Thanks for the look back at your previous fall tables too. Happy Fall, and hope you and Mortimer had a lovely morning coffee!
