Welcome to Shadow Shot Sunday and Seasonal Sundays.
We woke to a soft layer of winter white on Friday morning.
As I looked down to the terrace there was
a mirror image of the table and chairs.
Graceful, architectural images
appeared on the powder covered steps . . .
And began to mix with those from nature.
I noticed the black and white check
pattern and smiled to myself.
Our walk was a silent one
among the shadows of the trees . . .
Long, lean, and void of any leaves.
Shadows cast upon small drifts along the rocks
gave the appearance of hills and valleys . . .
And painted the snow covered
path with layers of charcoal.
Thanks for joining me for Shadow Shot Sunday @ Hey Harriet.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

These are lovely shots! I got to battle I35 Friday, so needless to say I didn't have much good to say about the snow haha. It was pretty though, and I love how it muffles sound in the morning. Well, except for the crunch of fenders :) Kat
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics Sarah! I know you're lovin' the snow, enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, I love the pictures with the railing shadow! Isn't it amazing how little details show up on the snow that you might not see otherwise? Linda

Snow is beautiful--in moderation. Yours was a moderate snowfall!
ReplyDeleteSILLY SHADOW DITTY
Shadows may or may not be
Patterns of urbanity.
If a shadow threatens you,
Here, my dear, is what to do:
Grab the shadow by the throat,
Toss it to a billy goat,
So the goat can chomp and chew,
Keeping it away from you!

Chiseled Shadows
Enjoyed seeing your shadow shots, but don't envy you with the snow. Predicted here tomorrow night and again Tues. into Wed. - I have had enough.
ReplyDeleteI need warm temps and sunshine.
Enjoy your weekend.

Just beautiful Sarah. I love the checked shadow too. Joni
ReplyDeleteSarah, I would love to see a bit of snow today! It is so hot and humid here in Brisbane today. I tried going for a swim but even the pool temperature has reached about 34 degrees (about 90F I think?) so it is better to just stay inside!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for dropping by and leaving such sweet comments recently. I really appreciate your friendship and support.
Best wishes and happy weekend,
Natasha.

I love the way that the shadows on the snow create a landscape from another world - not exactly miniature, but that's the best word I can think of. Can't you just imagine tiny villages tucked into the valleys in one of the photos?...a wagon train of fairies making its way across the charcoal plains.....an entire imagined world, until the snow melts.

These are lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteYour railing & table shadow are lovely~ I especially like the one blended with your trees & shrubs! What a nice surprise to find :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm such a wuss when it comes to winter....but your photos are a delight. Especially the walk in silence...I could go for that any ol' day.

Beautiful Shadow Shots
ReplyDeleteWonderful shadow captures, the terrace & steps look so very different from when I saw them last!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the quietness that comes with snow!!! I love how the sun is out and you were able to capture the shadows in the snow.
ReplyDeleteThe black and white checked pattern is so beautiful!
Happy day to you.
Beautiful photos! I love it when the sun comes out after a snow...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
Great shadow shots, Sarah! The sun is out today, so I hope away some more or the many inches we have left. It rained hard last night, but still so much remains.
ReplyDeleteI went to WS outlet Friday. You could do downhill skiing on the mountains in the parking lot. Those will be there till April, unless it gets really warm, please.
Just got an oil delivery...4,00 a gallon..200 gallons, ouch!!!!
Lovely shadowy series - I like the third best :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics ~ everything so still, so lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley

Lucky you that it was only a blanket of snow. Right now we're surrounded by mounds of ice. Such beautiful photos, love the shadow play.
