Touch of Plaid ~ Dots ~ Stripes
Last fall at the annual
Round Top Antique Market Days,
I came upon a booth full of vintage items
embellished with seasonal decor.
The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

Am I reading that right? Is you Mom 99 years old? God bless her. That is a long life and it sounds like it might have been a good one! Congratulations to her.
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet table to honor her. It is really darling. AND I LOVE that fun little noisemaker at the end. I can remember getting those when I was a kid- xo Diana
Happy Birthday to your sweet mother.
ReplyDeleteTalking about the antique family table reminded me of the table in my childhood home. My sister and I played for hours under the legs of that table like you and your sister.
Where oh where did you find the sweet orange and white flatware?
Dearest Sarah,
ReplyDeleteVery sweet of you for still remembering your Mother in such a loving way! Love the poem from Winnie the Pooh and it is so true; one can sense it!
Beautiful post with lots of sentiments and still keeping that oak table as a family heirloom with so many fond memories.
Hugs to you,
Mariette

ReplyDeleteLovely table setting and photos, Sarah, but even lovelier words. Your mother's birthday and thoughts of the table that sheltered her play and yours, and now that of another generation - it all brought a lump to my throat.

Sarah~ Your table puts a big smile on my face...from the owl plates, painted lazy Susan, and to the little munchkin playing under the table! How clever to bring new life to worn kitchen treasures, it makes me want to start a collection and pick up a paint brush! Looking forward to seeing your MIC post! Happy 99th Birthday to your mother!
ReplyDeleteThis table setting is wonderful. Love the tribute to both your mother and your table!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I could feel the love you have for your mother in every line that I read of this post. What a loving tribute! We had a special table in our family that had been my grandmothers that we used for play. A place on the top was ruined by a Halloween Jack-o-Lantern with a candle inside, which is really why I mentioned it. Definitely, an October memory! Love that orange flatware and those adorable rolling pins!
ReplyDeleteSo many memories made and so many still to be made:)...Happy Birthday to your MOM! God Bless her!
ReplyDeleteLove the tablesetting!
Sarah, what a fabulous heirloom. Happy birthday to your mom!

Happy 99th birthday to your mother, Sarah.
ReplyDeleteYour table is wonderfully set but best of all is the story.
My grandparents had a round oak table. I played under that table as a child. There were little places to hide "treasures". Of course when the leaves were placed in the table, the hiding places were found.:-) Thank you for sparking sweet memories this morning!
What an amazing birthday it'll be! And the table is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post to honor your mom. The table looks like it has some beautiful detailing and it's great the it's still in the family.

That was a wonderful post! What an amazing table.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your mom, God bless her!
Love those owl plates, and I covet your flatware.
Thanks, Sarah!
You and I will always have owls...hooties...in common. They always make me smile, although I must admit...so many sisters have sent me owls as bread and butter gifts that I'm O O'd....that would be Over Owled. I also spent years playing paper dolls under my grandmother's dining table. I always felt like my paper dolls lived in a beautiful Southern plantation! I love that you did the same thing. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteI too love the old table and all it means to your family. Happy birthday to you mom and bless her heart.

Your family's heirloom table is wonderful. I have an inherited dining room table and chairs too. It's a treasure. I think family pieces like that are what makes a house a home.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you had lots of fun putting your table together. There are so few things that have been passed down in my family and when I think about some of the things that have been lost, it makes me sad. You are lucky to have something with so much history and memory.
