Blue and White Tribute

There is a Blue and White Movement
across the country to honor frontline workers.
I  took the lead from a favorite Instagram account,
Days With Darviny, who encouraged others to set a table
in Blue and White to join in with a tribute of their own.

Recent heavy rains were not nice to one of my hydrangea plants.
I cut the few good blooms to bring indoors.
Perfect choice for this tribute!

Pantone's 2020 Color of the Year is "Classic Blue"
though here at Hyacinths for the Soul,
blue has always reigned supreme.
We live with color, and classic blue is prominent in our home.

The crisp white linens are family heirlooms,
lovingly handstitched by my husband's grandmother.
The woven damask napkin under the charger is part of a set
and remains as vibrant as the day we bought them in the 1980s.
Buy good quality textiles, and they will last several lifetimes!

I chose a charger with a pin stripe border for its simplicity and contrasted it with the bold checks of MacKenzie-Childs' new Royal Check pattern.  Both reflect the order, structure, and consistancy that one finds in a hospital setting.
The China Blue Vase tabletop accent from
Hester and Cook is the art work of Molly Hatch.

Most of my readers know that I like to
roam antique markets and shops,
frequently bringing home something for the tabletop.
The antique ivory napkin ring, is a classic example
of one of my random finds.  Loved the silver monagram!
F for Frontline

In honor of doctors and nurses and all those
workers on the frontline during Covid-19,
I say, "Thank You!"

Austin was honored to welcome the
US Air Force Thunderbirds
Flayover Tribute to Frontline Workers.
Thank you to my generous friend, Chelsea,
for allowing me to share her photo.

Living With Blue and White

It's no secret that I've a passion

for ceramics, and ones in blue and white

have always been favorites.

So why not join the March

Blue and White Bash @ The Pink Pagoda

Cool and calming, blue and white

offers a respite to our daily life.

Providing positive vibes

for both mind and body   .   .   .

A touch of tranquility to our day  .    .   .

And joyful inspiration.

In some cultures, many believe

that blue and white keeps bad spirits away.

For me .   .   .

it makes my heart sing.

Fills my

day with joy!

Sometimes I like a

 punch of pink

to add a touch of sass.

But most often it's white blooms

that fill my blue and white.

The combination

is timeless and unmatched.

~ Blue and White ~

A constant in my life.

Tell me, do you

live with blue and white?

Waterlogue Wednesday

I've long wanted to be a watercolorist,

but alas I'm not talented at drawing or painting.

I've tried, taken classes, but no success.

That is until tonight!

I'm now painting with ease, my friends.

Like many of you,

I've jumped on the Waterlogue train.

For the modest cost of $2.99

I can transform my photos from this .   .   .

Into lovely watercolor images.

It's my latest iPhone app.

These are my first attempts.

Quickly transformed

this evening just in time for the following party.

Want to join in the fun?

Download the app, start "painting"

like a pro and share your work at

Rhondi's Waterlogue Wednesday.

Rhondi @ Rose Colored Glasses

I may just print some on

watercolor paper and make notecards.

Dog Days of Summer ~ A Refresher

According to ancient Rome,
Dog Days of Summer
last from July 23 to August 24.

Well, I'm here to tell you that
with the Texas heat,
Dog Days
of lethargy and inactivity are still here.

It's definitely the season
for afternoon naps
followed by a refreshing treat.

Like an icy cold
glass of lemonade.

Along with a slice of
 delicious Meyer Lemon cake.

Delicious ~ Sparkling ~ Lemonade

Nothing better on a hot summer day
than citrus drinks to quench one's thirst.

Any way you slice it,
this lemon cake is full of goodness.

Tangy with a
touch of sweetness.

Elegant and Light

An afternoon citrus refresher.

"When are you going to stop talking
and cut the cake, Mom?"

"I'm ready!"

The Perfect  Refresher
~ Dog Days of Summer ~

YUMMY!

One of the things I've gleaned from watching my "chef"
is the importance of mise en place, having all ingredients
measured and prepared before one begins cooking.
This practice enables one to cook efficiently and eliminates
the possibility of leaving out a step or ingredient.

Another tip for you when making
this recipe is to use a spring form pan.
Using a large flat spatula like
above also allows easy transfer.

You'll find the recipe here
where I originally shared it for
 Cooking With The Meyers.
Silver trays, flatware, plates, and
vase were all thrifty finds.

Into The Blue

Life has recently taken me

off into the wild blue yonder.

So I thought I'd share a few shots

of my blue and white collection.

Cool and calming,

blue offers a respite to my day.

A favorite color here at HFTS,

blue can offer both serenity and exhilaration.

In some cultures, many

believe that blue keeps bad spirits away.

White is the perfect compliment.

So I frequently fill a few

pieces with with white blooms.

Perfection in my mind.

The combination is timeless and unmatched.

Blue and white ~ a constant in my life.
