Rabbit, RabbitWelcome September andWelcome to Tales of the Traveling ToteEdition 44Miz Merri Mac and I have stayed close to home, so our excursions have been few and mostly local.Hop on and let's take a look. We've even included a refreshing treat.
~ We Hopped Around Town ~
Our favorite summer treat and weekly splurge has been
a Peach Milkshake or a Peach Frosted Lemonade.
Chick-fill-A offered these special peach treats
June 9 through August 16.
Another treat, was ice cream at a recently opened ice cream shop.ZEDS has 3 locations in Austin, and one happens to be close by.
ZEDS is a New Zealand style ice cream. It's made with real fruit, traditional vanilla ice cream,
and served soft-serve style by mixing it all with a spiral beater.
Each customer simply picks out their ingredients,
and presto,a delicious treat is made to order.
a small shop offering fabrics for quilting,
sewing, and small fabric projects.
This little jewel offers classes for children and adults.
A Children's Sewing Camp was in session when I visited.
Best recent discovery is Plush Fabric Home InteriorsA big shout out and thank you to Sarah and Kester for their kind
help and attention with a project to reupholster a pair
of faux bois arm chairs I recently scored thrifting.
More to come on that project.
I was thrilled to return to a favorite garden center that focuses not only on annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, but offers a beautiful 5 acre destination for everything for ponds, fountains, fish, statuary, and pottery for the customer's outdoor spaces.
Another highlight was attending the opening day of
We enjoyed a major exhibition of exquisite work by
El Greco, Velazquez, and the Hispanic Baroque.
"The exhibit traces a 150-year history of Spaiish painting that culminates with the Baroque, a style characterized by dramatic realism, opulence, and religious devotion."I was intrigued with the dramatic realism of the
hands in the various Baroque paintings, so I focused in and
took photos of the hands to create the collage above.

Houston, TX

Some of you may recall that I opt to travel to Dallas and Houston
It makes these short trips easy and trouble free.
The above image is from the Von Lane site. Seriously, the service is totally reliable, very comfortable,
includes an attentive service attendant, and there is no airport hassle.
It was the perfect way to slip into Houston for
a baby shower honoring a new baby in the family.
Rockport, TX
My friend, Elizabeth, invited me and Miz Merri Mac, along with friends, to join her at her beautiful beach home in Rockport.
Amaing Water Views ~ Cooling Sea Breeze ~ Elegant Guest Room
Time to Stitch ~ Sand Between My Toes
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Truly, it was just the get away I longed for!
We picked up a grocery order, some fresh seafood,
and ate delicious meals at this beautifully set table. You can find more of Elizabeth's exquisite tablescapes on Instagram
Give her a follow!
Comfort, TX
We joined my stitch group on a day trip to the an extensive needlework shop in Comfort, TX.
Much of the Texas Hill Country remains in recovery mode after catastrophic flooding in July, but fortunately Comfort did not experience damage like many of the small towns.
The Tinsmith's Wife is an amazing resource for everythng needlecraft and was planned to be a gathering spot for those who love fine yarns, patterns, needlepoint canvases, cross stitch, knitting, and rug punch. It's definitely a place that inspires one to be creative.
I don't knit, but was intrigued with this patriotic sweater kit.

My, Oh my! Your entry was cram packed full of wonderful things you have done! I especially enjoyed the close ups of the hands in the paintings. I used to draw just hands in pencil. It was a great visit. Thank you for the opportunity to win! My blog is "...and everything in between..." at this address: https://wcaticus8.blogspot.com/, but I haven't put in an entry for a long time. I'm so neglectful! Cheers! Fonda Rush
ReplyDeleteWow - you have given me several ideas for mini field trips here in Austin. I will definitely stop by Zed's. I have never been to Comfort, so now that is also on my road trip list. (:
ReplyDeleteSarah, these are the kinds of travels I enjoy! Texas is so big, you can certainly make the most of "local" travel (some not even so local!). The bus service sounds amazing, and the trip to Rockport and that table - gorgeous! A nursery with 5 acres of planned landscaping would be a dream visit. You've had a wonderful summer, it seemed! Happy September!^
ReplyDeleteBusy, busy gal!! Love seeing all of your little jaunts, and happy to see you are still enjoying "being on the go". The bus trip looks like a better way to travel than by air! Your photos are fabulous and i enjoyed tagging along! Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing you travel and have fun.i am so impressed with your independence and adventurous spirit.
ReplyDeleteSarah, your travels have been so fun and adventurous. That bus service looks fabulous. A great way to travel. I never tire at looking at nurseries, especially one with acres of florals and plants. Zeds look like a wonderful place to enjoy a cold treat. Elizabeth’s tables are lovely. Thanks for taking me along on your summer adventures. Happy Labor Day.
ReplyDeleteYou have so many wonderful places nearby, you certainly can keep busy with that kind of traveling Sarah! The Gardens and Art Museum look lovely, and so many cute shops! It is great that you can go to Houston and Dallas on a luxury bus service, that is definitely better than flying! I love the Peach Milkshake from Chick Fil-A too :) I hope you have a wonderful Fall!

Oh Sarah, a wonderful roundup of your fun summer days. I love Chic fil a and Jim loves shakes, we usually treat ourselves once a week there. A nice little treat that keeps me out of the kitchen. I love the decorations for the baby shower and that cake has my attention, it's lovely. I do wish we had the bus service here you enjoy, such a convenience. I know you must enjoy the nursery you frequent, I love ours here but honestly it's been to hot to go. Hope you have a wonderful September Sarah. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteHappy Labor Day and September Sarah! You have so busy and had such a fun summer with your travels! I would love a trip to Hill Country Water Gardens and Nursery and have always admired garden water features. Your first class bus rides sound like the way to go. I am not a fan of flying, not so much fearful as, the ‘hurry up and wait’ factor makes me anxious and being hate being confined on a plane. I bet you’re stitching up a storm with new supplies. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. 🧡
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a wonderful bus service like yours. I've done the drive between Dallas and Houston and leaving the driving to someone else sounds great. Not having to fly is even better. Karen (Back Road Journal)
ReplyDeleteTexas is a country all unto itself, so I enjoyed seeing your tour of Texas! What I like best is the Hill Country Water Gardens and Nursery and the Spanish Baroque exhibit. Water gardens are so soothing, especially in the summer, and the exhibit must have been AH-mazing. Thanks for taking us along with you as you toured your home state!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I love your travels for the summer. There is so much to see in Texas. The bus service looks fabulous and much easier than airports. Happy September!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I always enjoy hearing about your excursions to Hill Country, and your luxury bus tours are the perfect way to travel in style. The baby shower photos are darling! I hope to try the Peach Milkshake from Chick Fil-A soon. I never think to get one and we only stop when we're on the Thruway which is typically in the morning :-) Wishing you a fantastic autumn! Our granddaughter started kindergarten today.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading of your nearby travels, Sarah, and your mode of transportation to Dallas and Houston. The water gardens and nursery sounds like a wonderful destination. I’m sure I’d love visiting the stitchery shop, too. Happy September!
ReplyDeleteYou had an eventful and diverse group of experiences that all sound wonderful. The beach looked so tranquil. Loved the collage of hands from your visit to the Spanish exhibit. Great idea to focus on one element in a series of paintings. Thanks for sharing.
