Tales of the Traveling Tote @ 43

Rabbit, Rabbit
Welcome September and
Welcome to Tales of the Traveling Tote
Edition 43
Miz Merri Mac and I have stayed close to home,
so our excursions have been few and mostly local.
Hop on and let's take a look. We've even included a refreshing treat.

~ We Hopped Around Town ~

Our favorite summer treat and weekly splurge has been
a Peach Milkshake or a Peach Frosted Lemonade.
Chick-fill-A offered these special peach treats
 June 9 through August 16.

Another treat, was ice cream at a recently opened ice cream shop.
ZEDS has 3 locations in Austin, and one happens to be close by.

ZEDS is a New Zealand style ice cream.
It's made with real fruit, traditional vanilla ice cream,
and served soft-serve style by mixing it all with a spiral beater.
Each customer simply picks out their ingredients,
and presto,a delicious treat is made to order.

One new discovery was The Beehive
a small shop offering fabrics for quilting,
sewing, and small fabric projects.
This little jewel offers classes for children and adults.
A Children's Sewing Camp was in session when I visited.

Best recent discovery is Plush Fabric Home Interiors
A big shout out and thank you to Sarah and Kester for their kind
help and attention with a project to reupholster a pair
of faux bois arm chairs I recently scored thrifting.
More to come on that project.

I was thrilled to return to a favorite garden center that focuses not only on annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, but offers a beautiful 5 acre destination for everything for ponds, fountains, fish, statuary, and pottery for the customer's outdoor spaces.

Another highlight was attending the opening day of
Spirit and Splendor at the Blanton Museum of Art.
My friend, Olivia, was in town visiting from NYC.

We enjoyed a major exhibition of exquisite work by
El Greco, Velazquez, and the Hispanic Baroque.

"The exhibit traces a 150-year history of Spaiish painting that culminates with the Baroque, a style characterized by dramatic realism, opulence, and religious devotion."
I was intrigued with the dramatic realism of the
hands in the various Baroque paintings, so I focused in and
took photos of the hands to create the collage above.

Houston, TX

Some of you may recall that I opt to travel to Dallas and Houston
on our Von Lane Regional Bus that offers first class service.
It makes these short trips easy and trouble free.

The above image is from the Von Lane site.
Seriously, the service is totally reliable, very comfortable,
includes an attentive service attendant, and there is no airport hassle.

It was the perfect way to slip into Houston for
a baby shower honoring a new baby in the family.

Rockport, TX

My friend, Elizabeth, invited me and Miz Merri Mac, along with friends, to join her at her beautiful beach home in Rockport.

Amaing Water Views ~ Cooling Sea Breeze ~ Elegant Guest Room
Time to Stitch ~ Sand Between My Toes
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Truly, it was just the get away I longed for!

We picked up a grocery order, some fresh seafood,
and ate delicious meals at this beautifully set table.
You can find more of Elizabeth's exquisite tablescapes on Instagram
 Give her a follow!

Comfort, TX

We joined my stitch group on a day trip to the
Texas Hill Country to shop the The Tinsmith's Wife
an extensive needlework shop in Comfort, TX.

Much of the Texas Hill Country remains in recovery mode after catastrophic flooding in July, but fortunately Comfort did not experience damage like many of the small towns.

The Tinsmith's Wife is an amazing resource for everythng needlecraft and was planned to be a gathering spot for those who love fine yarns, patterns, needlepoint canvases, cross stitch, knitting, and rug punch.
It's definitely a place that inspires one to be creative.
I don't knit, but was intrigued with this patriotic sweater kit.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  1. My, Oh my! Your entry was cram packed full of wonderful things you have done! I especially enjoyed the close ups of the hands in the paintings. I used to draw just hands in pencil. It was a great visit. Thank you for the opportunity to win! My blog is "...and everything in between..." at this address: https://wcaticus8.blogspot.com/, but I haven't put in an entry for a long time. I'm so neglectful! Cheers! Fonda Rush

  2. Wow - you have given me several ideas for mini field trips here in Austin. I will definitely stop by Zed's. I have never been to Comfort, so now that is also on my road trip list. (:

  3. Sarah, these are the kinds of travels I enjoy! Texas is so big, you can certainly make the most of "local" travel (some not even so local!). The bus service sounds amazing, and the trip to Rockport and that table - gorgeous! A nursery with 5 acres of planned landscaping would be a dream visit. You've had a wonderful summer, it seemed! Happy September!^

  4. Busy, busy gal!! Love seeing all of your little jaunts, and happy to see you are still enjoying "being on the go". The bus trip looks like a better way to travel than by air! Your photos are fabulous and i enjoyed tagging along! Happy Fall!
