Snow Fun

J A N U A R Y  18th
~ World Day of the Snowman ~

Unlike many of my friends, January is
actually a favorite month for me.

We don't often have severe winters here in central Texas.
In fact our winter days can be a roller coaster
of temperatures and weather patterns.

A recent Sunday was one of those winter weather days!
We woke to heavy rain, but by 10 AM,
snow was gently falling and continued till late in the day.

Areas west and north of town received considerable more
snow than the few inches that accumulated here.

Families delighted in the winter wonderland, and snowmen
could be seen in many outdoor spaces across Austin neighborhoods.

By Monday, the snow had dissolved, leaving vestiges of those
neighborhood snowmen standing on brown winter grass.
I know, not a very pretty sight!

Most January days are
simply cold and dreary here.

But, that's OK with me.
I'm a fan of winter!

I get to dress Sadie in a favorite sweater,
though admittedly she doesn't like rain or snow.

She would rather be
inside up on a comfy bed or .   .   .

In her favorite chair
with her cuddly snowman.

You'll find me on the sofa with a cup of hot tea while
the chef sips on his mug of hot chocolate.

Yes, January
is a favorite month.

I get to celebrate my birthday in January,
the birthdays of some dear friends,
and a great niece and nephew.

Are you living among snowy scenes,
out playing in the snow and enjoying the winter sports?

I say,
"Let it snow!"

Have you ever built a snowman?

Or, how about a Snowhog?
Samantha posted photos on her FB page with the quote:
"When you show hogs, you don't make snowmen!"
Is this not the cutest?  Talk about having fun in the snow!

Tell me, are you a fan?
Is January a favorite month for you?
What do you like to do in January?

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  3. Our Januarys are usually brutal with blizzards, but we have had a mild winter this year (and ironically this is the year we have to stay inside and close to home!!)I like just an inch or two of snow to make everything look pretty and clean on our grey dreary days! Cute collection of snowmen and an adorable snowhog!

  7. Dearest Sarah,
Love the cute Sadie pictures but am definitely not a snow fan.
January is not a favorite month, right in line with December, due to the cold and nippy wind.
    Hugs and stay cozy!

  8. Hi Sarah, I try to love January every year, and embrace the chance for new beginnings, organizing, and getting things done, but I am not a fan of cold weather! I too have surrounded myself with happy snowmen, and have been hibernating by the fire most days! Your snowman collection is adorable, and I know you enjoy snuggling with sweet Sadie! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!

  11. Sarah, I'm so happy you enjoyed your special day, and are enjoying January like few others, with snow! You know my sentiments, but I still enjoy the happiness it brings those who embrace it! My favorite thing of January is organization. It's my forte, and it's the perfect month to dive in. Sadie looks 100% adorable in her winter sweater, cozy with her snowman.

  12. How wonderful you had a nice snow to enjoy this January. I'm sure you adorable collection of snowmen were celebrating along with you the wonderful wonderland of winter. I love the idea of all things winter but I'm afraid I'm one of those people who can't wait to get all my decorations put away for a clean slate, the sooner the better. I have a few candles and greenery left out to enjoy on these cold dreary days and evenings. Such sweet photos of Sadie and your snowmen collection is darling. Can't wait for spring, already seeing my daffs which makes me so happy. Hope you are still enjoying your b'day week.............

  15. The snow was exciting for a portion of the south which was unusual. We didn't get any but I enjoyed those that posted pictures that did. Excitement is contagious.
Your snowman collection is so fun and your vignettes are always creative and enjoyable.
Im so glad you had a nice birthday celebration.
Sadie looks so cute in your photos.
I'm really pretty cold natured so I'm like Jenna I like sitting by the fire drinking hot drinks. I do like the slower pace but can't wait for greening up and spring flowers.
