L is for Lemon

L is for Lemon

"Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet

But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat."

Not so Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Have you tried my lemon meringue pie?

My favorite recipe for Lemon Meringue Pie

is from JOY OF COOKING, Scribner, 1997.

Lemon desserts are the

perfect choice for hot summer days.

Use your favorite lemon pie recipe to

make individual lemon tartlets.

You can top them with berries instead

of the meringue for a bit of summer color.

Or fill pâte á choux puffs

for a tasty lemon cream puff.

Then sit back with a cool drink

and enjoy the fruits of a lemon tree.

So when you find yourself

with a bowl of fresh lemons or limes . . .

Make a pie!

~ A Lemon Meringue Pie ~

Make it with a "mile high" meringue like I do.

Just double the egg whites!

Pretty vintage hankies for napkins

and served on MacKenzie-Childs' ceramics.

Ahhh, a refreshing summer treat!

  1. Lemon is always my first choice when choosing a dessert. Your tart with a fruit topping is a feast for the eyes, but that pie! Looks beautiful and I am sure it is delicious. I hope you got to enjoy a piece for too. Dianne

  12. Be still, my ♥!!! My mouth is watering at just the thought of a taste of your lemon treats, Sarah!
Such a pretty setting, too. I must run & check to see if my lacey table topper will look half as pretty on my outside round table. I never thought to put it there. Thanks for the idea & for sharing all your luscious looking desserts.

  13. Oh, yes please Sarah, I'd love a big slice of your lemon pie and a taste of all the other desserts on your pretty table. You're so right, lemony desserts are perfect for a summer treat. Your MC dishes showcase your desserts so well. However, I also LOVE the pewter basket of lemons in your top photo. Stay cool!!

  17. Sara, I adore lemons and anything made with them - limes are great too - can't imagine my kitchen without lots of lemons at the ready and buy them by the bag (Aldi being the best price). I always have a glass of warm water with a piece of lemon first thing the morning, along with with a probiotic capsule, the supposed benefits are several. I've been going through many lemons making so much fig jam again this past two weeks - I grate the peel in and add the juice, it really cuts down on the sweetness of all the sugar which has to be added, and grating I find more pleasant than chopped chunks of peel which can turn really chewy in the jam making process.

I love your baked goods displayed here on your beautiful M-C china which is a favorite of mine - even though I don't have any! Perhaps I should consider baking something cool and lemony this weekend even though it's cooled down a wee bit - our first day where the temp. should stay below 90F and continue all week, some relief at long last! The mile high pie is awesome, and the thought of a lemon filled cream puff, or a tart, yummy!

Happy weekend - I'll be writing you soon!
    Hugs, Mary

P.S. My mum always told me how she sucked on fresh lemons when pregnant with me - perhaps that's why I love the flavor so much?

  18. Sarah, I am not sure which I would like, the lemon pie, lemon tart or lemon puff to go with that lemonade! Everything looks delicious. Love the MC dishes.
    Have a great weekend.

  21. it all looks so yummy, even the bowls! Lemon is my favorite, but we're low carb for the last week so I'll have to pass on that piece of pie.

  22. Oh my gosh! Lemon desserts are my absolute favorites! When we lived in Arizona, and had LOTS of fresh lemons, I would use a juicer, then measure out the exact amount of lemon juice for a recipe and freeze it immediately in a little plastic bag. Lemon desserts throughout the summer and fall!! Great post.

  24. Yummm, lemon meringue pie. It's my favorite kind of pie, but I don't eat it much. Too sweet. I do make a lemon pudding that's on the tart side.

  27. Hi Sarah,

My favorite pie is lemon meringue! I had to hunt for blue, but I found some. Thanks for playing today.

Please come back and tell me what you think of my service dog post.

    Happy Blue Monday!

  29. Sarah, I LOVE lemon meringue pie! And the extra meringue makes it irresistible especially served on your beautiful M-C ceramic dishes. Do you know that I only have enamel pieces? I am always tempted when I see your beautiful vignettes but I'm on a dish buying break so I'll just admire yours for now. I am also looking at your wonderful pewter piece in the first photo and wondering if it is Pierre D? It looks great with the lemons and all the citrus must smell wonderful in your house. Linda

  31. I don't make lemon pie often, but I always use the Joy of Cooking recipe.

My favorite thing to make with lemons is lemon bars. The trouble is I could eat the entire tray.

  32. Oh lemon love Sarah! Your pie and other treats sound perfect for these hot summer days, but of course my eyes were drawn to your wonderful McK-Chd pieces :) I just ordered a quiche dish and can hardly wait for it to arrive, I might have to christen it with a deep dish lemon pie!

  34. Lemon - pretty in color, smell and taste (with a little something added). Your pic of the bowl of lemons and your posting of lovely desserts pretty much sums up all that is good about lemons!

  35. Dearest Sara,
You show us very elegant lemon pâtisserie - mouthwatering and that's exactly the kind of European style I prefer; never too sweet.
Lemons are so healthy too, we need to indulge on them more often.
For styling you also score very high!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  39. Mmm, lemons!♥ Although, I confess that as much as I love lemons, limes are my favorite. Spending most of my life in Florida definitely endeared me to citrus. Lemon bars, key lime pie, lemonade, lime wedges in my diet Pepsi all make me smile.

    Happy Pink Saturday.
