Blue Skies & Sunshine ~ The Italian Countryside



Blue and Yellow

Let's Dish about a 

favorite color combination.




I happened upon this gorgeous tablescape 

at one of my favorite shops in town.




The sunny yellows made me smile and 

pull out my camera so I could share the happiness.




Love the variety of square 

 planters filled with yellow gerbers.  

I like the contemporary touch 

they lend to the very traditional china.






The white linen cloth accented with 

these bright lemons gives the table a crisp look.




Notice how the addition of the 

yellow linen placemats anchors 

the blue and white china so it 

doesn't get lost in the sea of lemons.





The blue and white china is 

Blue Italian by Spode.





Considered a design icon, this pattern was 

inspired by the Italian countryside and

features an 18th century Imari Oriental border.





The pattern goes back to 1816 

and is one of the most popular and 

successful patterns in Spode's collections.  


My tip for the week:

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

    Sarah~ Blue & Yellow is such a cheery combination of colors! I love when traditional and modern are paired~ the bold pattern & scale of the lemons, planters, and napkin rings make the setting so much more interesting!

    I can always spot spoke china, I think I have a couple pieces in the blue & white because thats the color of my staffordshire china blue calico

    Hi, Sarah! The temperature here is expected to hit nearly 100 again today, so this cheery combination of brilliant color is a welcome sight!!! It is STILL SUMMER out there, and this is a beautiful table that celebrates it. I have always been a blue-and-white lover, and when yellow is added to the mix, I just go bonkers! Oh, what I would give for those Spode dishes!!!!!! Keep shopping and sharing! :-)

    I was just at KC's house helping her prepare for a small dinner party...she expecting the arrival of Beatrice Emaline sometime in the next two weeks. Turned out she couldn't move as quickly as she wanted to while preparing for her guest. I put her table together...she used her Spode Blue Italian on a Williams Sonoma yellow French Country tablecloth. Small world! Thanks for taking us along through your camera shots. Cherry Kay

    I covet those blue Italian Spode dishes, Sarah, even though I have vowed not to buy new china when I move. I love them paired with yellow linens and lemon accents.

    Oh Sarah, your colors are GLORIOUS!!!! I never liked yellow, EVER until this year. Maybe it is my age...I am growing UP and learning to appreciate so many new things like never before.     Just lovely - there is something so cheery about these colors together! As for my blue checked dishes, no, they are not M-C, but rather Christmas Tree Shop many years ago! (I bought them because they resembled Honeymoon!)

    This is a gorgeous tablescape! We just remodeled our kitchen in these colors, and I love it. My favorite things in your pics are the Spode salt and peppers and the yellow hemstitched placemats and napkins. Beautiful!

    So pretty! I use both blue and yellow pretty sparingly, and it always looks so perky when I see it together. I like all the different elements working together here. And so Euro too, which I love. Very nice!
