Thanksgiving Dinner 2016

I trust each of you enjoyed a bountiful Thanksgiving.

As one can see from the serving buffet,

"the chef" prepared an amazing meal for our 

2016 Thanksgiving Dinner.

As is tradition in our home, 

we pardoned the turkey again this year.

Beef Tenderloin was the main dish,  

accompanied with many delicious sides.

~ Smoked Quail ~ Schnitzel Beans ~ Carrots w/ Fennel ~ 

~ Grilled Sweet Potatoes ~ Wild Rice w/ Brussel Sprouts ~

~ Fresh Baked Dinner Rolls ~

For Dessert ~ Apple and Pumpkin Pies

There were seven 

of us around the table.

A Cinderella pumpkin atop 

a grapevine and bittersweet wreath

served as the centerpiece.

Bethany Lowe placecards offered a

perfect excuse to use the silver placecard holders I

found at the Paris flea market several years ago.

Each a different woodland animal, 

these pieces of the past remind me of the autumn season.

I layered the 

table with neutral linens.

Vintage English bread boards were used

as chargers for each place setting.

Antique silver napkin rings collected from French markets held

 beautiful embroidered npkins from Williams Sonoma.

Once again I chose to use the beautiful dinner plates 

that were a gift from the sweet, generous 

Cherry Kay @ Entertaining Women.

How Now Brown Cow

JUST BROWN AND WHITE 

And A TOUCH OF SILVER

Cuisine Kathleen challenged us to set a 

 table with white dishes and one accent color.

Easy for me to pull out the dishes we use daily,

Nantucket by Wedgwood.

As you can see my accent color of choice is brown.
Luncheon plates are a design by Kate Spade
for Lenox.  I picked up a set on clearance at TJ Maxx.
Flatware is Talisman by Christophe.

All of that topped with crystal stems by Denby and 

brown linen napkins held by Royal Staffordshire 
napkin rings in Tonquin.  

The monogramed napkins are circa early marriage.

The brown and white transfer ware napkin holders 

are Tonquin, a design by Clarice Cliff from the 1920s.

I found three of these at the Round Top Antique Market one year

and luckily was fortunate to add four more from

Nancy's Etsy Shop, English Transferware.

Nancy is a fantastic source for 

transfer ware and a delightful person.

The bone dish at the top of the setting is also Tonquin. 

I only have two of these, but thought I'd add them just because.

Colored crystal stems were all the rage 

in the mid 70s when we married.  

Our wedding china is 

Palermo Brown by Richard Ginori, 

so it seemed to be the perfect choice at the time.  

I still find them beautiful, but colored crystal has its limits.  

The bucolic scene of the transfer ware 

made me think of cows grazing in the countryside.

It wasn't long before my collection of 

cow creamers came into play on this tabletop.

This fancy lady is French, made with beautiful details

that one expects from Limoges china.  

The brown and white cow, another Round Top find,

 is in the Charlotte pattern by Royal Crownford.

These little girls are inexpensive 

and newly made in China.

So there you have it, Cuisine Kathleen, 

a table set with only white and brown.

My tip for this week is a quick and easy, but tasty dessert.

This is a favorite from my childhood.

~ A Brown Cow ~

~ Root Beer ~

~Vanilla Ice Cream ~

 ~ Whipped Cream ~

You can see I used the new A and W low calorie root beer, 

and the whipped cream only has 15 calories a serving.  

With a small scoop of ice cream, this is a fairly low cal dessert.

Top it off with some 
chocolate sprinkles or shavings.  

It's so tasty you'll have 

to hurry before the cows drink it.

Soups On

There is a nip in the air, 

and we are welcoming fall.

It's the perfect time to enjoy a cup of hot soup.

I've set a table for 

two out in our sun room.

                   

~ Our Menu ~

Spicy Tomato-Chipolte Soup 

Garnished With Ripe Avocado Bites

Slices of Warm Focaccia 

Right Out of the Oven 

Chilled Chateau 

St. Michelle Chardonnay

Let's Dish 

about the details on the table.

The soup is served in 

simple white French porcelain bowls.

These cute pumpkin plates are 

the perfect accent for a fall table.  

I've place them on Nantucket Basket 

by Wedgwood to set them off 

against the fall inspired placemats.

The detail of the hand painting 

on the pumpkin plates is amazing.  

I wasn't familiar with MSC Mainstreet Collection, 

but if these plates are representative 

of their product line, I'm impressed.

We found the decoupage placemates 

at a Paris shop many years ago.  

The colors and the details are wonderful 

and perfect for any fall table.  

I've used my husband's favorite flatware, 

Talisman by Christophe.

These were made by Siecle, 

but I suspect many of you clever 

DIY readers could make these yourself.

The metal leaf serving plate 

offers another touch of fall.

As do the plaid 

napkins tied with raffia.

The mix of colorful 

flowers fill a favorite medal basket.

Thankful for Friendships

Recently my life hasn't allowed the luxury of time to create new posts for HFTS, and I've received many thoughtful notes from friends checking on me. I greatly appreciate everyone's concern and the friendships I share with all of you here in the Land of Blog. I truly appreciate each of you! What an amazing community of generous, caring, and thoughtful friends. I'm indeed thankful for your friendship!

Today I'm recycling a post I created for

2009 Thanksgiving Tablescape.

I hope to have new posts to share very soon.

We celebrate Thanksgiving with thankful

hearts for the bountiful blessings of our life.

Our table is set 

awaiting the arrival of our guests.

Salad plates in 

Olde Avesbury by Royal Crown Derby.

Dinner plates in 

Palermo Brown by Richard Ginori.

Italian Pewter chargers by Cosi Tabellini and

Talisman enameled silver flatware by Christophe.

Crystal stems in

 rich amber by Denby.

Antique sterling French napkin

rings collected through the years.

Some are monogramed 

in beautiful scripts.

The heirloom napkins 

were a gift from my mother-in-law. 

 Each have been monogramed by hand 

and were stitched by my husband's grandmother.

The table cloth is by Yves Delorme in

shades of green and subdued teal blue.

My Tuesday Morning acorns have 

been pulled into service as place card holders. 

 Fallen leaves from a Red Oak are inscribed 

with each guest's name using a silver paint pen.

Small initialed treat boxes 

are favors to be taken home.

Inside are 

honey glazed Texas pecans.

The center piece is a single pillar 

within a crystal hurricane lantern, a recent thrift find. 

It is flanked on either side by small 

white pumpkins, and all sits on a pewter tray.

Dinner will be served from the nearby sideboard 

in white French porcelain dishes. 

The antique silver and mother of pearl serving pieces 

are all individual pieces that I've purchased piece by piece.

A simple glazed container holds a 

bouquet of tulips, gerber daisies, 

hypericum berries, and golden thryallis.

Red ware pottery, acorns,

squirrels, horn votives,

candles, an amber 

glass turkey container,

vintage candy containers,

pumpkins, gourds, and more turkeys 

set the mood for Thanksgiving.

After dinner. . .

dessert will be served 

in the adjoining sun room.

A lemon cyprus topiary and

pumpkin shaped gourds 

are the centerpiece.

Coffee and dessert will be 

served on Richard Ginori china.
