It's time to celebrate turkeys and autumn flowers for
Monday Morning Blooms!
My rafter of turkeys come out to visit each November.
They are vintage paper maché picked up here and there when I'm lucky enough to find them for a reasonable price.
for their monthly flower posts on the first Monday of the month.
It's a Blooming Good Time!
about fresh flowers, dishes, and holiday collectables.
Did you know that turkeys have far better vision than us humans?
Their vision is 3 times better than humans, and they see in color.
Male turkeys are called "toms" and females are simply "hens".
Both make a variety of sounds ~
purrs, yelps, kee-kees, and gobble-gobble.
Can you imagine the loud cacophony of turkey sounds around here
with the excitement of seeing these beautiful autumn blooms?

Presidential Pardoning of the Turkey began in 1989.
President H. W. Bush started the tradition
of the official pardoning ceremony.
I married "the chef" in 1975, and for all the years
we were together, he always pardoned the turkey,
selecting a different bird for our Thanksgiving meal.

Alstroemeria are a favorite bloom I bring home from
Trader Joe's because they are inexpensive,
long lasting, and come in a variety of colors.
I always look forward to the orange variety
that is available in the autumn months.
Another favorite are Haley's Comet tulips
with their brilliant yellow and red orange flames.
These tiny, straw-like blooms are colorful and dry beautifully.
I made six of these last year as party favors for a dinner party.
Grocery store bouquets are perfect
for filling a pitcher or vase.

They come with a mix of seasonal blooms
that offer easy, instant arrangements.
Mary recently asked what our favorite Thanksgiving food is.
Without hesitation, I said pecan pie!
I'm serving it on my favorite cake stand, an early
MacKenzie-Childs piece in the Wittika Peanuts pattern.
I often say, it's all in the details, and this piece is full of details.
Notice the glass beads and brass charms that encircle the rim.
Each charm is a different animal, but no turkey in the bunch.
There is a fun little faux cupcake with
turkey that I placed on top just for fun.
I'm also using my new Arte Italica
pewter vintage mini pastry server.

You have such a wonderful collection of fall décor and your cake plate is stunning. ReplyDeleteGood morning, Sarah. I would love a slice of your pecan pie with my morning coffee. Yes, I can eat dessert anytime of the day even for breakfast. You have so many fabulous collections including turkeys. The paper mache ones make a lovely display. As I repeat myself often, your vignettes are exquisite. Each image can be studied for its detail. Turkeys visit our pasture regularly and often up close in our yard. Sometimes they travel with fifty or more companions. I love watching through the windows especially when they fan their tail feathers. They are welcome visitors, they don’t eat my garden. Your amazing collection of MKC pieces are displayed with thoughtful imagination and beauty. All of the varying flower arrangements are lovely. Alstromeria comes in many colors and has a long vase life. I planted one a couple of years ago, it is too hot here for it to flourish, but it has continued to live.

Good morning, Sarah! I wish I had a slice of that delicious pecan pie this morning with my tea. I love pie for breakfast! My grandmother always served both pumpkin pie and pecan pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner dessert. You have created so many gorgeous floral arrangements throughout your home. Each display is a feast for the eyes. Your collection of vintage turkeys is beautiful. I enjoyed reading all of the interesting facts pertaining to turkeys. ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, so many pretty Fall vignettes and eye candy!! I am swooning over the photo with the MK vase full of the dyed hydrangeas next to the pile of patterned pumpkins, so so pretty!! Your turkey collection is impressive, so many cute Toms and hens! Of course I'm also craving a piece of pecan pie now :) Thank you for the Thanksgiving tour around your home!

ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty and inspiring, I'm heading out to the Dollar Tree later to get a bunch of turkey statues, vases and they have a lot of nice paper and plastic flowers too. Nothing more fun than the Thanksgiving holiday.
