Countdown to Easter

Redbuds are in full bloom around town
and our days are warming up with
bright sunshine and blue skies.
Spring has definitely arrived!

I recently found this chippy rabbit
at an antique show.
Antique cast iron Hubley garden rabbit
circa late1800 to early 1900.

I cut some redbud branches and brought them in
to fill a large vintage ironstone pitcher.

A nest of hand-painted eggs painted
in the 80s and 90s by my friend, Nancy R.

An early Easter present!
Porcelain Plates and Mugs
BIA Cordon Bleu
From the aisles of Home Goods

Packaged in these
adorable storage boxes.

All became my creative muse
as inspiration for
Easter Brunch ~ 2015.

I thought the bunny plates would pair perfectly with
 MacKenzie-Childs Taylor ceramics and
chargers in Ambiance Vintage Garden.

I'm not a matchy-matchy kind of girl.
When I first started buying these plates in the 1990s,
I'd buy a single plate in a different pattern.
The whimsy of it all fits the MacKenzie-Childs esthetic.
Click here to see another spring table
with Taylor ceramics and
to read about the different patterns.

One thing I liked about the box of plates
was that each plate is a different spring color.
Don't they play well with the Taylor patterns?

Cute matching mugs
are perfect for tea or coffee
or soup or dessert.

Several years ago, MacKenzie-Childs
sold mini compotes in the various Taylor designs.
I'm certainly happy I added some to my cupboard
because now they've been discontinued.
They are perfect for ice cream and individual desserts.

Or as a nest for special
Easter cookies.

With all the colors going on at each place setting,
I decided my soft pink linen placemats
were a good choice along with our Sir Christopher Silver.

The ceramic bunny napkin rings were
from Sur La Table years ago,
but these cute gingham napkins can be
found at Pier I this season.

Nice quality woven gingham in pastels and
edged with a sweet little crocheted detail.

Springtime calls for
bees and bunnies, don't you think?

Here you are ~
A springtime table ready for
Easter brunch right after the egg hunt.

Easter will be here in
eleven days!
Are you ready?

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  5. Sarah - Your Easter table is wonderful! I love everything about it: the painted eggs, bunny plates that perfectly coordinate with the M-C ceramics, the silver, napkins and placemats.... Everything is so pretty! Your Hubley rabbit is amazing; I collect Hubley dogs but didn't know about the rabbits. And where did you get those precious decorated cookies?

Thank you for inspiring me to step my Easter decorations up a notch. Have a happy holiday!

  8. Sarah, your table is adorable. I love the bunny plates. Gingham and polka dotted linens are my new favorites this year! I love that your antique rabbit is sitting guard over those beautiful eggs.
Our rosebuds haven't blossomed, yet...but the lilac are starting to leaf out and have loads of buds on the very tips of the branches...hope we don't get a storm or heavy frost.

  9. This post is delightful! I love your chippie garden bunny, and your bunny plates are so pretty. Yes! The MC plates look like they were made to go with the bunny plates - all in pretty Spring colors. Those gingham napkins are also perfect with this setting. I love that they are all different pastels. I'm going to have to get to Pier 1 before those sell out. Our redbuds are not in bloom yet. Yours make such a pretty centerpiece, and the petals brighten the tray beneath. The whole setting is perfection.

What a lovely set you've accumulated over the years! Sur la Table always carried great pieces and your treasure finds at Home Goods with others make for a perfect Easter setting.

  17. Sarah, I finally stopping pinning and oohing and aahing to make a comment. I love your sweet colorful bunny plates on your McK-C chargers, they're a match made in Easter heaven! Your redbud branches in a pitcher for the table are my “hyacinths for the soul”...what beautiful and timely spring centerpiece with the shower of petals on your tray. Your cast iron bunny is a treasure too. I can't believe Easter is coming so quickly, I need to get hopping! Thanks for the beauty and artful cookies for dessert :)

  18. Oh my goodness, Sarah, I just received an email of your post and had to hop on over to comment. Your table is one of my favorites! It is so darling and whimsical with the M-C Taylor plates and your new bunny plates. What a fabulous pairing they make! The gingham napkins just add to the look. Oh, and the good fortune of your antique, chippy bunny...he's perfect on the tray withnyour redbud branches and the painted eggs. The compotes are wonderful for holding your treats, too. May I please have a cookie on the way out the door?

  19. How precious...LOVE your new cups & plates, Sarah!!! Just perfect with your McK-C items. So cute with those darling napkins, too.
I swore I wasn't buying any more dishes but you've got me itching to run out to our HG & Pier 1, to see if I can find some of the same. And I didn't think I was going to bother with cooking Easter dinner this year. You've inspired me, as usual.

  22. Sarah, This post is so full of beautiful and interesting things that I don't know where to begin! Perhaps with those lovely eggs~~what a treasure! And the MacKenzie plates always make me happy. My collection is all enamel but I love the pottery too. I must learn more about the Hubley pieces so I will recognize them at antique shops. Everything here is just so pretty. I would love to sit at this table on Easter morning. Linda

  23. Love the way everything came together to create such a lovely Easter table! I am drooling over the chippy rabbit and your hand painted eggs -- your friend is very talented! And the cookies look so delicious!

  24. Nobody does a table setting like you Sarah - always beautiful, forever stunning! You just keep getting more and more adept at bringing together the perfect place settings along with fabulous centerpieces etc. I LOVE that new bunny - we would have come to friendly blows over that one if shopping together - he's gorgeous!! I love the way he's posed with his head up, definitely alert. Your painted eggs are splendid - your friend is so talented, and I love the M-C compotes and dishes. I saw so many pretty Easter things at HomeGoods recently but had to control the urge to add more china - just nowhere to store it and I really need to downsize (hate that word and all the work it requires!). I just know friends will be fighting for a place at your brunch table!
The cookies are beautiful - I'm useless at decorating cookies that way - and your St. Christopher silver pattern is gorgeous.

Happy Easter, happy Spring my dear.
    Love and hugs - Mary

  29. Very much ready for Easter, Sarah. Very pretty and lots of work.
I just popped in from Sarah Beth's Magnolia Lane and saw you guessing that she was from Texas. We are also. The Bluebonnets are really popping out along the freeways, our Early Ford V8 club is getting ready for a Bluebonnet run.
Our Red Buds here in the Houston area have come and gone, about three weeks ago now. We have a few pinkish blooms limply hanging from our still, but it is one of the late bloomers. The Azaleas are just now blooming but ours are always late as well.

  32. Sarah...how I would love some bunny dishes.. Yours are adorable. I would love more MacKinsie Childs things..but they have gotten out of my price range. So..I just keep my wish books..(their catalog) when they come..and look for things I can have. right now? The knobs for my sofa table. AFTER I finish the wallpaper. I love their things..and your dishes are so sweet.

  33. Sarah, everything is lovely. I am a gingham girl so that really caught my eye. When I have a large crowd at Easter, I set several tables all with different spring gingham tablecloths. I adore your bunny dishes...too cute! Visiting from Home and Garden Party. Stop by and check out my recipe for a green chilies cheese grits casserole. It would look yummy on those cute plates!

What a fun, colored Easter table! All of your assorted plates do play well together under the redbud tree branches. The redbuds are blooming in my yard also. A vase full of the branches is sitting on my kitchen island shading a bunny and eggs.

The chippy rabbit is a wonderful find.

  42. Wow the redbuds won't bloom here for a long time yet! What a great s pring flower and it goes so well with your tablescape. Love the new plates- I just saw those at TJ's yesterday but I had just been gifted some bunny plates so I refrained from buying them. I like the mix of these with the MC dishes. I guess that's a smart way to buy from MC...one at a time- then it's not so overwhelming! I hope you'll get a chance to visit my tablescape and see my bunnies too! Easter is fast approaching!
