Soups On

There is a nip in the air,

and we are welcoming fall.

It's the perfect time to enjoy a cup of hot soup.

I've set a table for

two out in our sun room.

~ Our Menu ~

Spicy Tomato-Chipolte Soup

Garnished With Ripe Avocado Bites

Slices of Warm Focaccia

Right Out of the Oven

Chilled Chateau

St. Michelle Chardonnay

Let's Dish

about the details on the table.

The soup is served in

simple white French porcelain bowls.

These cute pumpkin plates are

the perfect accent for a fall table.

I've place them on Nantucket Basket

by Wedgwood to set them off

against the fall inspired placemats.

The detail of the hand painting

on the pumpkin plates is amazing.

I wasn't familiar with MSC Mainstreet Collection,

but if these plates are representative

of their product line, I'm impressed.

We found the decoupage placemates

at a Paris shop many years ago.

The colors and the details are wonderful

and perfect for any fall table.

I've used my husband's favorite flatware,

Talisman by Christophe.

These were made by Siecle,

but I suspect many of you clever

DIY readers could make these yourself.

The metal leaf serving plate

offers another touch of fall.

As do the plaid

napkins tied with raffia.

The mix of colorful

flowers fill a favorite medal basket.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  1. Hi Sarah, First of all, your husband has exquisite taste in flatware. I love it too. And thank you for pointing out the tip about the pretty ribbon on the gourds. The silky ribbon contrasts so nicely with the gourds--I am definitely going to do this. Yum, the menu sounds delicious. This is such a cozy and welcoming table. Linda

  19. Hi Sarah,

I agree! The nip in the air makes it perfect for a cup of hot soup. I am ready for soups, stews, chili, etc. I think I'm going to make something this weekend along those lines but haven't decided what as of yet. We've got a cold front moving in now and I have to say I'm loving it. I wonder if it's hitting you all to.

Your table looks wonderful and is full of charm and detail. I especially love the iron leaf dish but the plates, the plaid napkins and the crisp white make it all so inviting.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Nancy

  26. Hey there, Sarah! I could use a cup of warm, spicy soup today. It got mighty chilly around these parts overnight, and we are expecting a frost over the weekend. Nothing like what they are getting in Denver or Minnesota or North Dakota, though...thank goodness!!! This is a very pretty setting, and I really love the way you have presented the napkin with the raffia tie and placed on the diagonal. The placemat is really fun, too. I am NOT a crafty person, so I would have to buy them, too! :-) Don't know that I can go all the way to Paris for them, though. Wow...Paris! I really like your metal leaf serving dish, too. Definitely rings of fall!!! Have a happy weekend!
