Weaving a Web of Inspiration

Cuisine Kathleen's mischief makers

are at it again, stirring up fun around Blogville,

while the Boulah Twins, Beaulah and Zoulah have

been busy cooking up Halloween treats in the kitchens

These three Kitchen Witches

flew in to offer up a little tabletop inspiration.

Lean in a little closer, if you dare,

to hear the details of a spider's lair.

While hats float up in midair,

Jack-o-lanterns glow and glare, and

Black cauldrons hold a lion's share.

"Come sit," said the spider,

"I'll weave you a web .   .   .

Of fine silky threads,

And set you a table uniquely spread!"

I often find store displays to be a good source for inspiration.

I snapped photos of this charming table last year.

It enticed me to go home with my own

set of the spider web tidbit plates by Tag.

(Out of courtesy, always ask permission to take photos of store displays.)

Look for an upcoming post

that will feature these arachnid plates.

Soups On

There is a nip in the air,

and we are welcoming fall.

It's the perfect time to enjoy a cup of hot soup.

I've set a table for

two out in our sun room.

Chilled Chateau

St. Michelle Chardonnay

Let's Dish

about the details on the table.

The soup is served in

simple white French porcelain bowls.

These cute pumpkin plates are

the perfect accent for a fall table.

I've place them on Nantucket Basket

by Wedgwood to set them off

against the fall inspired placemats.

The detail of the hand painting

on the pumpkin plates is amazing.

I wasn't familiar with MSC Mainstreet Collection,

but if these plates are representative

of their product line, I'm impressed.

We found the decoupage placemates

at a Paris shop many years ago.

The colors and the details are wonderful

and perfect for any fall table.

I've used my husband's favorite flatware,

Talisman by Christophe.

These were made by Siecle,

but I suspect many of you clever

DIY readers could make these yourself.

The metal leaf serving plate

offers another touch of fall.

As do the plaid

napkins tied with raffia.

The mix of colorful

flowers fill a favorite medal basket.

Vignettes of Fall

Autumn is a second spring

where every leaf is a flower.
                                                                                                     Albert Camus

Merry Autumn Days
By Charles Dickens

Hail to the merry Autumn days,

when yellow corn-fields shine,

Far brighter than the costly cup that

holds the monarch's wine!

Hail to the merry harvest-time,

the gayest of the year,

The time of rich and bounteous crops,

rejoicing, and good cheer!

Tis pleasant on a fine Spring

morn to see the buds expand,

Tis pleasant in the Summer

time to view the teeming land;

Tis pleasant on a Winter's

night to crouch around the blaze,  ~

But what are joys like these,

my boys, to Autumn's merry days!

~ What's Your Choice ~ A Bowl of Cherries or A Chair of Bowlies?

ME Metal Sculpture by Enesco 1998

"Life
is just a
chair of bowlies!"

Mary Engelbreit coined this phrase
when she launched her very first greeting card.

Collection of Assorted  ME Products from 1990s

To say I'm a fan of Mary Engelbreit
and her work is an understatement!

I've been purchasing her greeting cards since the very first ones were available.  Mary's art work was a favorite in my classroom during the years I taught elementary school, and Mary's whimsical work remains a favorite here in my home.

Fresh Oregon Cherries
in the grocery this summer prompted
me to gather my ME cherry things for a recent tablescape.

Hood River Cherries
from Oregon are the BEST!

I filled one of my ME cookie jars
with bright golden sunflowers.

Then I set the table with  ME cherry dishes
paired with solid black dishes
and MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check.

I added some cute cherry napkins,
a recent find at Tuesday Morning.

Love the way they all stack up together!
You can see another tablescape
that features the ME cherry
dishes paired with plaid here.

I added in the crystal
compote for a special treat.

When it comes to containers for flowers,
don't limit yourself to an ordinary vase.
Get creative and use other
containers found around your home.
This ME cookie jar was a perfect fit for the sunflowers.

Have a Happy Day!
