A Night in Paris ~ Joyeux Noel




 A friend and I hosted a holiday

dinner party for our Mah Jongg group.





Some of you may remember

that I spent two weeks in France last fall.

One of my friends joined me when I arrived in Paris.

While there, we began planning a 

special dinner party for

A Night in Paris.





The table featured our own

La Tour Eiffel

complete with sparkling lights   .   .   .





Atop a Champ de Mars

of fresh greens and fragrant rose petals.





Une Magnifique Soirée!





There were twelve of us,

so we set another small table to the side.





While in Paris last September,

we dined at Auberge Bressane,

one of my favorite restaurants which offers

an authentic traditional French cuisine.
In anticipation of our dinner party,

our waiter let us buy some of the restaurant's napkins

to take home as souvenirs of our trip.

We brought back these

adorable trays for each of our guests.





They served as perfect 

bread plates for croissants and butter.





Wrapped packages for 

each guest were sparkly Eiffel Tower

ornaments to hang on their own tree

and a copy of 

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS IN PARIS.





Brie En Croute and champagne to toast

the evening while lively French music filled the room.

We had a local restaurant make our main course,

authentic savory French crepes ~ The Eiffel and The Bruni.

Haricot Vert and fresh tomatoes

 topped with a special vegetable mixture.

Dessert ~ Créme Bruleé, bien sur!

La Fête Nationale



Bastille Day ~ July 14th ~ La Fête Nationale

This French holiday commemorates the anniversary 

of the storming of the Bastille on this date in 1789.

Like the 4th of July here in the US,


Bastille Day is a time to celebrate independence; 

the storming of the Bastille represents the 

beginning of the French Revolution.
Patriotic festivities and parades are held throughout the country of 

France and also in many cities here in the US and other countries.

 Paris is the sight of a grand military parade on the Champs Elyées

and fireworks at the Eiffel Tower.





Some day I'd like to celebrate Bastille Day on the Champ de Mars 

beneath the Eiffel Tower and a sky filled with fireworks. 

But here in Austin, one can still celebrate in style with Bastille Day 

festivities at the French Legation. 

This year marks the 16th annual Alliance Française Bastille Day.





Native French men, women, and children living here in Texas and 

francophiles, such as myself, will gather in celebration of this 

historic French holiday.



 There will be lively French music . . .





And delicious food, including French crêpes, both savory and 

sweet, and of course a selection of French pastries.

 Face painting, petanque, and other

games will entertain old and young alike.



 In the past vintage French cars 

 have been on display.




 And of course there will be live music

and dancing under the stars.



 It's hot here in Texas so ice cream 

 is a good way to cool off.

I'd Rather Be In Paris


A cousin and her family are planning a trip to Paris

this summer and wanted a little help with their plans.



In honor of their visit for the day,

I pulled together a few Parisian details.



I gathered up a group of Eiffel Tower

and fleur de lys souvenirs from previous trips.



I wanted to set a festive mood while

we enjoyed brunch and discussed Paris.



A bouquet of fresh flowers . . .



In a Parisienne pitcher . . .



Gave a bit of color to the buffet . . .



Of white serving pieces.



More colorful flowers . . .



Filled a crystal bowl encircled by a trio

of French poupées for the table centerpiece.




The whimsical dolls are

original Parisian creations by Cerri' Art.



Each Mademoiselle features a unique head

decorated with an extravagant head-dress.



The flexible bodies easily adopt various poses.



These exotic creatures are full of whimsical details.



Though their millet filled bodies are flexible,

the arms and legs are Limoges china.



Each unique, the whimsical mademoiselles offer a

touch of fantasy and make one want to exclaim, "Oh, la la."



To keep the table simple, rattan chargers

held dinner plates that feature bold, colorful fruits.



Vintage French flatware offered a touch of elegance.



While cobalt stems held the

cheerful yellow linen napkins.



The colorful fruit plates are

by Rainbow Gate in Santa Fe, NM.



Each is hand made and hand painted.



We discovered Rainbow Gate Pottery in 1995

and purchased four of their colorful plates.



With subsequent visits to Santa Fe through the years,

we've added more plates, each featuring a different fruit.



Our brunch started with sweet Beignets and coffee.



Fresh fruit salad of grapes, melons, and berries



Oeufs brouillés or French scrambled eggs with a side of bacon



And of course, croissants



To which one might add a bit of sweet cream butter



And orange with fig or strawberry jams



I'm here for the summer, but would rather be in Paris.
