F is for Fence

F is for Fence

Fence ~ a barrier intended to prevent

escape or intrusion or to mark a boundary

Fence photos taken by me at various places through the years.

Credit to my sister, Nancy Smith, for the photos of the

Indian Creek Cemetery and the fence behind the sprawling tree.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  5. I enjoyed seeing all the fence photos, Sarah, and especially the fence of bikes...how unusual is that, but so pretty in white! I also loved the fence that was painted with art work...so pretty. Oh, and the little house with the grass on the roof top...Awww so sweet.
I love your ABC theme going on and I look forward to each week and what you'll think up!

  6. There are some interesting fences, there! Who would have thought to make a fence out of bicycles? Not a fence, but I love the little garden shed with the shaggy grass roof!

  7. The fence of bicycles is wonderful.

But, the garden with the boat brought back wonderful memories. When we bought our house, there was an old rowboat in the garden filled with flowers. Unfortunately, over the years, the boat just rotted away. I loved that boat in the garden.

  9. Hello Sarah, Thank you for your visit. Thanks also for sharing your photos of all the lovely unique fences. The Indian Creek photo is unique also. It looks so pretty with the blue flowers it looks like a cemetery in a creek. Hope you had a lovely Pink Saturday. Joyous Wishes, Linda

  11. Sarah,
I paused and absorbed each photo, each fence unique, many very powerful emotionally. Sarah I didn't see any photo sources so I believe this is all your delightful photography. Just a suggestion ... turning them into a 14 month calendar for 2016. If you did I'd buy several of them as Christmas gifts. Just a thought.
Thank you for this very beautiful photo essay.

  14. Fantastic photos that warm my heart. I think my favorites are the black wrought iron---so classic but not practical for one who has dogs! And the old wooden one, now that's feasible!

Lastly, I LOVE the pic of the old boat. Oh, I bet it holds a lot of great memories! :)

  24. I adore fences especially if they have any kind of flowers climbing over them. I think they also give character and structure to any space. Fences and gates....they are my favorites.

  44. Sarah, you and Nancy did a great job with these photos. Are those Blue Bonnets in the cemetery? I need to paint a flowering mural on our fence, since I seem to have a brown thumb. Isn't the white-painted bicycle fence unique? Any luck on your house sale?

  46. Sarah, your collections of photos, these and the flags are great. I particularly like the bicycle fence. That would be so cute! I saw one here in CO that was made of skies that was so cheer feel.
