All I Need is My Flirty Pink Poodle Skirt!

It was this distinguished hare

in his Courtly Check collar that caught my eye

in one of the booths at Round Top last fall.

Drew me right over to this

charming table right out of the 1950s.

Yep, that's a set of

Homer Laughlin dishes from the 1950s.

Some of my favorite themes!

~ Black and White ~

~ Plaid ~

Seriously tempted

to take this set home with me.

Even the alphabet blocks!

Decided to leave it for one of the

younger set who are mad for Mid Century Modern.

Really!

I gave up wearing my black and white saddle shoes

and flirty pink poodle skirt before high school.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  1. Thanks for sharing such a neat table. Those plates are so current, it's hard to believe they're vintage.

I do hope you'll share some of your stashing places at "Where do you keep it all?" this Sunday.

  3. But it is so much fun to see all the goodies at an antique show even when we don't buy them! Thanks for giving us a peek into the Round Top show. One day I'm going to make it there.

  5. Oh, yes....I would have totally been tempted, too, to bring those gorgeous plaid dishes home!!! They remind me of "back in the day" when I attended Catholic grade school and high school. We were swathed in plaid!!!!

I'm a dress form junkie!!! I have 3 large ones and several like shown on your tablescape. I just love how they can be dressed up or dressed down. The one on your tablescape has the neatest look with that little key to raise or lower it! I am TOTALLY IN LOVE with the one you saw at Round Top!!!!! That is so ME!!! That bunny head on top with the distinguished necktie is just TOO COOL!!!!!!!!!

  6. Gosh Sarah, I would've been tempted to take home the black and white plaid dishes, too!! I've never been to Round Top, but that would be an adventure in itself. The bunny is adorable and so are the giant letters. Sometimes it's enough to just browse and see all the pretty things.

  8. Great tablescape. I've always wanted to attend Round Top. Then I forget when it actually comes around. Sigh. Did you see BNOTP posted MacKenzie Childs home for sale? Thought of you. If the new owners change it out and have an estate sale, that might be worth a road trip. Cherry Kay

  24. Can’t believe you passed the black and white HL set! These are gorgeous Sarah. I think we think a lot alike, I don’t really need this and where would I put them. I have to be so careful now, not much room unless something goes. Great ribbon on the hare.I love the saddle shoes too, we called them rah rahs.
    Enjoy your weekend Sarah

So cute. Cannot believe you didn't cave in and take them home -- I could see them mixing right in with your MacKensie-Childs pieces!

  29. love those black and white dishes....and I have been dying to buy a pair of saddle shoes...I ordered some from Zappos and never realized that with those wacky pink soles they don't bend....not good for old feet. I guess it was for the best...I'm crazy enough I don't need to draw attention to my feet...

  33. Cute black and white plaid dishes! I always laugh at Mid Century Modern. Which century? (Kidding.)
Somehow the '50s doesn't grab me the second time around either. :)
