Dinner with Ghoulfriends

Annual October dinner with "ghoulfriends"
was in the fabulous home of my friend, Cindy.


Cindy loves to decorate for holidays, 
and we share the same passion for vintage 
and folk art holiday pieces.
Previous post on her Halloween home here.


The entry table is welcoming with
a large, carved wood rabbit
dressed for the season.

These images were taken at night, 
so the lighting wasn't ideal for photos.
It was the perfect ambience for the evening.


Isn't this piece amazing?

Cindy's dining room table is a beautiful antique.
The patina on the wood is rich and warm and the perfect
backdrop for her gorgeous tablescape.


Honestly, I've never seen such gorgeous pumpkins,
and the hay and glitter add a fun touch of texture and sparkle.


Cindy used a clever mix of sizes and color,
and each one has a charming stem.
Twinkle lights glow as they weave among the pumpkins. 


Cindy's trick to creating the beautiul luminous glow ~
she sprayed them with clear lacquer.


My friend has collected intereting Halloween decor
through the years, and it is always a treat to see how
she incorporates these treasures around her home.


Hanging from the chandy above the table were
Halloween themed fans and figures within cones.
Try as I might, I could not get a good 
photo of the entire arrangement.

 The straw chargers add perfect texture 
that mimics the straw strewn among the pumpkins.


 Cindy's amber stemware is both beautiful
and perfect for this setting.


Dinner was healthy and delicious!
~Vegetable Soup ~ Twice Baked Potato ~ Green Salad ~
 Cindy has two sons, now adults with their own homes,
but they still expect their mom to pull out the special
holiday decor and are disappointed if she doesn't.


 I'd be disappointed too!

 Cindy's metal candle tree moves about.
 This year it sits on a bench on the stair landing.


If you read my last post, you know that these metal candle trees
are from Mexico and that many of my girlfriends 
and I have them in our homes.


 Did you notice in the first photo that 
Cindy is also a MacKenzie-Childs fan?
I have this fabulous tray in Courtly Check, 
but I love the Parchment Check too.


 The scarecrow is new this year and creates a
whimsical vignette on her kitchen island.


There is no better way to add a touch of holiday color 
and vibe to a kitchen than seasonal tea towels.  
Cindy's style sense of the layered linens is stellar.


Signed and numbered little squirrel.
This little guy stays out all year.

I took party favors for each of my "ghoulfriends."

Hocus Pocus ~ It's Halloween


Hello, my little lovelies. 
 Glad you've stopped by for a visit.
We have a recent dinner party to share.

The dinner was for a group of girlfriends 
who have been getting together for over 30 years.

Each place was set with a stack of fall favorites.
~ Courtly Check, by MacKenzie-Childs ~ 
~ Wexford Orange Plaid, by 222 Fifth ~ 
~ Country Estate Autumnal Traditions, by Juliska ~

Plaid napkins in the colors of autumn 
were purchased at World Market twenty years ago.
The unusual napkin rings were found on my fall trip to France?
Each of these are sterling antique baby teething rings.
All but one was purchased from a variety of venders
at the Chatou Antique Market just outside of Paris.



This is the one that prompted my new collection.
You all know I have an affection for bees and bee related items.
Can you see that this is a bee hive with bees buzzing about?

I knew I had my own baby teething rattle tucked away at home.
All I would need to do was polish it, and I'd have two to use
as napkin rings, one for "my chef" and one for me.
You can see my 1940s' version, on the left, 
has a flat ring with a belt motif clasp. 
The French pieces, date from late 1800s, 
are more ornate, and often have clasps that 
attach directly to an ivory or bone tubular ring.
Once I began to notice more at various dealer's booths, 
my new obsession / collection was spawned!
Small and easy to pack, they were a perfect souvenir to bring home.

By the time everyone arrived the table was 
filled with party favors for each to take home.

 The mug filled with old fashioned candies like those from
our youthful Halloween days was a favorite.

An appetizer of trout spread served on sweet potato crackers
and lively conversation was enjoyed in the sunroom before dinner.

 Dinner was individual crustless chicken quiche
served with a side salad and roasted tomatoes.

 ~ Dessert was a visit to the buffet ~
Courtly Check, vintage style paper maché 
Halloween containers, and lots of sweets.

~ Chocolates from Paris ~

It was indeed a sweet evening 
spent with treasured friends.
