Rabbit ~ Rabbit
It's the first of June and time for
Tales of the Traveling Tote.
Welcome to Tales of the Traveling Tote #27
As I type #27, I find it a bit astonishing that our Traveling Tote Group
has been posting and sharing adventures since June 2015.
No exciting trips or adventures for me and Miss Merri Mac.
We continue to stay within a few miles of home, though
I did have a fun day with my sister when she
was recently in town to visit her daughters.
We met in Georgetown to tour a new restaurant venue
her son-in-law is involved with, enjoyed a quiet lunch,
and of course stopped into Gatherings.
of us who live nearby the small town of Georgetown, Texas.
We laugh and like to say, "Georgetown is just a conversation away!"
one of the historic buildings on the town square.
Built in the 1930s, the 90 year old structure originally
served as the Georgetown post office, and upon entering,
we see a section of 98 of the original mail boxes.
The kind of mailbox I knew as a
child before home delivery.
These boxes greet guests in the lobby and
can be rented with a yearly membership.
Check your mailbox, and periodically you'll find a fun surprise.
It could be a bottle of wine or whiskey, a voucher for a free
meal ~ some little treat that is fun and festive.
unique gifts and culinary items. made locally or nearby.
To the right of the lobby will be a butcher shop and oyster bar.
The main dining rooms will be in the back with booths
along the walls and tables down the middle, all set
with beautiful, rich wood tones and soft lighting.
Executive Chef Adrian Corkill, here with the restaurant's
wood-fired grill, plans a menu of premiere steak and seafood.
Upstairs is a spacious event room complete with stage,
dance floor and bar. The basement will offer
a "speakeasy" with a vintage feel and its own entrance.
Miss Merri Mac and I hope to share an update
once this exciting new restaurant is open for dining.
Until then, who knows what
travel plans lie off in the distance.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

Happy June Sarah! I love seeing historic buildings rehabbed for a new venue and life! What a clever concept and sweet surprises delivered in those boxes for rent. Those beeswax owl candles are hoot, yes, you need a couple or a trio. :) Hope you'll be travelling soon. ♥
ReplyDeleteHow neat to share about your outing with your sister and her SIL's plans for a new restaurant in Austin. I wish him much success. It sounds like it will be a great addition to Austin.
ReplyDeleteHope your refrigerator woes are being fixed. So much rain still in the forecast.Have a good week, Sarah.
Sarah, I loved reading about this new City Post - it sounds like a complete package destination. It's so great to not only get out again, but to know there are entrepreneurs willing and ready to venture out and make a go of new business. Happy June, my friend. Whether we travel far or stay close to home, it's great to just be able to get out with friends and family again.
ReplyDeleteCity Post looks like it will be a wonderful destination spot! I love the "mailbox" idea! Hope your summer brings you on a some exciting travels!

ReplyDeleteYou always style your tote for photos so cleverly Sarah, all your vignettes are so pretty! City Post looks like it's going to be a fabulous place to dine, and surprises in the mail boxes, how fun is that! I bet there are many treasures in the gift area too, it's so great to see history respected and old buildings restored. Have a wonderful summer sweet Sarah!

Happy June Sarah, so glad you got to get out a little. City Post sounds like it will be a wonderful place. I am happy to hear and see people are restoring old building and opening up a beautiful place for all to enjoy. Fun little gift shop, love the beeswax owl. Your vignettes are always lovely. I am still looking for a pair of Hunter MK boots. Happy summer.
ReplyDeleteDearest Sarah,
ReplyDeleteGreat to read about the time spent with your sister.
You are fortunate for living in a great state with a true leader as a Governor.
We too enjoyed some travel by car to Tennessee. It is not easy for finding gas with prices in Atlanta being as high as $ 4.399 for one gallon of premium! What a change...
But as long as we can enjoy some outings, that is blissful.
Hugs,
Mariette
City Post looks like so much fun....who wouldn't like to get fun surprises in a post office box? I love that! I know you enjoyed your time with your sister and nieces. :D
ReplyDeleteCity Post sounds like an exciting new steakhouse to add to the Georgetown/Austin area. I enjoyed seeing the photos of the old post office and reading a little the history. A clever idea for the mailbox. I'm sure this was a fun and exciting day for you and your sister. We haven't traveled far from home either but hope everything continues to get better everyday. Like you say, who knows what exciting travels lie ahead! Happy June Sarah.............
ReplyDeleteSarah, your day with your sister was delightful. City Post looks like a remarkable restaurant and venue. The boxes with a little gift is a wonderful idea. I love when historic buildings aren’t torn down, but repurposed! You must share your visit when they open! Happy June!
ReplyDeleteCity Post sounds like a really neat addition for George Town. Ill share this with my Texas Peeps. We celebrated Hal’s birthday all last week, and I was too pooped to remember to publish for today. I have lots of pics for next time. CherryKay

ReplyDeleteSarah this will be such a great restaurant. I love all of the great details he has included. I always admire people who will take on a restaurant. It is such work, but we sure enjoy them. That picture on the railroad tracks with Miss Merri Mac is award winning! Have a great summer.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like it will be a fabulous restaurant and I would put it high on my list should I ever be in your fair city! I love the sweet honey items, too. (No pun intended!) You may not be traveling as such but you definitely head out in style!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming blog. I have only just discovered the Travelling Tote. I love all things MacKenzie Childs, but do not own any, so admire from afar. Those mail boxes are beautiful indeed. Debbie
