Let's Dish ~ Melamine






Just look at this beautiful table setting. 

Would you ever guess that these

  dishes are actually melamine?

Seems melamine is making a come back.




These Italian inspired dishes 

certainly aren't the retro melamine of my youth.




Each of these charming dishes are by Le Cadeaux.  

The Rustica sage green rimmed in red 

truly looks like Italian ceramics.

Layer in a Louis sage salad plate with a

Rustica cream cereal bowl to create  

an amazingly beautiful place setting.




Add some colorful floral napkin rings




With crisp white linens.




Doesn't this look yummy?




The added detail on the 

napkins is a nice touch.




Pretty green stems




Real ceramic fish bowls



Add to the elegance





Each a delicious color from the sea.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

    It's hard to see that they are melamine! It's certainly not the melamine of my childhood! I like the colours - wouldn't it be lovely to have a set for dining out on the patio?

    Beautiful Sarah! I saw some melamine dishes yesterday with butterflies on that them that at first glance looked like porcelain! Those pastel fish plates & bowls could swim right to my table :)

    Never in a gazillion+ years would I have guessed these plates to be melamine!!!! The manufacturers are really doing a fantastic job with melamine these days. I can remember it being very drab when I was a youngster, and I didn't care for it a bit. Thank goodness someone called in the dish calvary!!! I have lots of melamine patterns in my dish arsenal. The patterns these days are just amazing! The dishes you pictured here are particularly adept at fooling the eye into thinking they are anything BUT melamine!!! I really like the napkin rings, too, because the flowers on them are so full and fluffy. Gorgeous table!

    Hi Sarah, I was just thinking about melamine becoming so popular now! It is totally different than the older pieces. I just bought some this week in Pottery Barn for the deck, and I had to pick them up to be sure they were not pottery. The salesman said they were flying out the door, and I actually wiped out two stores in the color I wanted. Your dishes are absolutely beautiful and do look like Italian pottery. I also like the use of the striped linens. Linda

    that is Melamine as I like it. Melamine is sometimes really useful. For picnics or because of the light weight. I have to look for some of those. Thank you for the great pictures and inspiration.

    Hi Sarah, sometimes I am tricked with beautiful dishes being melamine until I lift it off the store shelf. I love the color and summery detail of your table. I actually prefer using melamine at our cottage. It feels right :-)

    I don't know if it was this brand, but I have seen some beautiful melamine pieces at some of the higher end shops which had to be picked up and touched before you tell it was not ceramic. I really like the turquoise mats and yellow flatware!

    It really does seem to be the thing these days. I've seen such pretty melamine at both PB and Wms.Sonoma. Love the colors and textures on this table. I especially like those fish dishes - all of them!

    The dishes are AMAZING! You are SO RIGHT, they do look real! Yes, I remember the melamine of yesteryear...I never did care for it, BUT your dishes are GORGEOUS...Adding lots of sophistication to your picnics...I am "IN LOVE" with your fishy dishes though! Your whole table is so much fun!

    Oh a charming table, the melamine plates are so pretty. Yep, I always look at the most beautiful melamine dishes at a store around here and wish they weren't, they're not cheap either, and they are making a come back. When I was small they were so ugly!     I agree... there are lots of pretty Melamine plates on the market lately. So pretty and bright and safe for the patio and poolside!

    Your table setting is very lovely with all those beautiful "flowers" lol. I think those pretty crisp white napkins with the colorful edges really add to the whole table.

    Gorgeous melamine... who would guess?

    Truly intriquing! Hard to believe they aren't the real Italian dinnerware! "Mr. Ed" and my first set of melamine dinnerware was a wedding present...which we took eerywhere during our early Military Service. They didn't break! Nowadays we use enamelware for patio dining...but...I admit, I've been giving melamine another thought! I adored the soft hues. Thanks for this lovely tablescape!
