Turkey Trot Time - Thanksgiving Tablescape Blog Hop

Welcome to Turkey Trot Time
 November's Tablescape Blog Hop

First let's give a big shout out and thank you to our leader,
Rita @ Panoply, the lady who keeps
us organized and on track.
We have 14 tabletop stylists joining the hop today.
Links are at the bottom of this post.

My 2024 beaded turkey from John Derian for Target
was the inspiration for this year's table and sits
front and center in the middle of the table.

I was very impressed with the quality of these beaded turkeys.
The detail of the heavy beading is exquisite.

I made him a bed of dried bittersweet,
and he settled right in.

Horn votives with battery tea lights are interspersed
to add a touch of mystique for evening dining.
The little lights flicker in the dimly lit space.

I placed his friend from the previous
year in a chair along side the buffet.
I didn't want him to feel left out.

It's a table set for four for an
evening spent with close friends.

I'm a longtime fan of John Derian from the days when we had an apartment in NYC.  I discovered his collaborations with Target in 2023 and quickly went down that rabbit hole, adding the fabulous beaded turkeys offered in 2023 and 2024.  I also added pieces of dish ware, linens, place card holders and a few other items that caught my eye.
Are you a fan of John Derian's artistic talent?

I used my favorite burlap table runner and a dish stack that
started with large place chargers made of chicken wire and reed.
To that I  stacked the John Derian turkey themed chargers, Churchill Country Life dinner plates with an oak leaf and acorn border,
and the John Derian turkey salads plates.
Our Christofle silver and enamel flatware complemented it all.

Each of the salad plates features
a different handsome turkey.

I placed them atop these fall
themed Churchill dinner plates.

The John Derian turkey feather chargers
perfectly nest within the chicken wire place chargers.

I think the dish stack looks very handsome.

I used burlap ruffled placemats for the
setting on either side of the bare table.
I like to add in lots of textures.

I used these beautiful autumn linen lapkins gifted to me by
my talented friend, Dawna of Bolts in the Bathtub
Do you spot the turkeys among the fall leaves?
The napkins rings are vintage transfer ware from England.

I thought the tortoise
stems fit right in.

Vintage Majolica pumpkin salt and peppers
add a touch of bright pumpkin color.

If you saw my Monday Morning Blooms post yesterday, you will recognize these flowers in pieces of my brown transfer ware.
I brought them in from my alfresco setting and
gathered them onto a tray on the buffet.

To the left of the tray is a grouping of a couple of
turkeys and a child's set in brown transfer ware.

On the right a few more turkeys and a needlepoint in
honor of "My Chef" who was known for always
"pardoning the turkey" at Thanksgiving.

I bought the mix of autumn blooms
from my local Trader Joe's.

It will be an evening that focuses on
 Gratitude!

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  1. It's always a pleasure to view your beautiful tablescapes. The beaded turkey is exceptional. I am not familiar with John Derian but I like everything you have displayed. Fall is such a beautiful season where we are from in Pennsylvania but not very noticeable here is Florida. Wishing you a joyous Thanksgiving.

  2. You have styled the John Derian for Target beautifully Sarah. The beading is extraordinary, and my granddaughter and I pulled mine out yesterday. Your platter full of turkeys is delightful! Wishing you an enjoyable fall and Thanksgiving.

  3. So warm and inviting Sarah! I hadn't heard about John Derian before, and as we don't have Target in Canada sadly I won't be able to purchase his gorgeous pieces. That turkey is stunning! Your place settings are beautiful, and I especially admire your flatware. The napkins are so pretty and I had to look twice when I noticed that pattern was actually little turkeys!

  7. Wow! I love everything here. That beaded turkey is fabulous! I really should get out more because I would have loved to have added him to my ever-growing turkey cache. I also love those feather chargers, wonderful turkey salad plates, and the plates with the hunt scene on them -- the whole hunt scene thing is a favorite of mine. I'm going to jot down "Churchill" plates as ones to look for.

  8. Sarah! That is quite the gaggle of turkeys!! I love seeing so many - they are much more handsome on your tray than in real life!! You have set such a lovely table from the printed burlap placemats all the way up to the fabulous turkey plates - it looks wonderful. Those napkins are fabulous! I didn't see the turkeys until I read your line-perfect for the occasion. I also love all the fall flowers on your buffet, very pretty!! I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving🧡🦃

  9. Oh Sarah, everything is just wonderful! I love your turkey collection. And your Deriens, too! I just have the chicken (they were out of the turkey) but you're spot on about the intricate beading. They're worth every penny. I hope there is a 2025 turkey -- I need to get to Target! I brought up the turkey dishes yesterday. I love yours, a different pattern than mine. Your Derian salad plates and chargers are beyond fantastic. Your colors, the use of naturals with the little pumps, and the gorgeous blooms go into making the most delightful whole! I bet anyone would love to be at your table this year. Or any year.

  10. Sarah, I don't like being critical...but I think you need a few more turkeys for your Thanksgiving display...just teasing you of course, because I say one can NEVER have too many turkeys and I love to study the detail of each and every one. 🥰 I LOVE your table and all things turkey and yes, I like John Derian too ...as I have the very same dishes and chargers you have shown. (Great minds think the same dishes). I wish my Trader Joes was a bit closer...your flowers are lovely and your buffet is always a joy to look at as you have such fine attention to detail and usually include it, which means more for us to admire. One feels we are right there in your home for a wonderfully great time. Happy Thanksgiving.🍁🐿️🍂
