enjoy nice morning walks though our neighborhood.
Lately I've noticed that some have already
added wreaths with red bows,
greenery swags on doors and windows,
and Christmas lights in trees and on houses.
Whoa, Nellie!
I'm not ready to move on into the holiday season
of red and green, holly, and Christmas trees.
I'm still savoring the softness of autumn
with its russets and warm earthy colors.
I like to see pumpkins and gourds
and fall flowers at the entry of homes
to welcome guests and those of us who stroll
by on neighborhood walks.
The chef is currently
at work planning the menu.
Like the squirrels burying their winter stash,
I too am savoring the delights of autumn
for the winter months ahead.
Yes, I want to savor the delights
of autumn before I embrace the upcoming
transition into the holiday season
and winter months ahead.

We are still all about
turkeys and pumpkins here.
Lots of soft lush and plump
velvet pumpkins!
And favorite containers filled with
beautiful fall flowers.
Thanksgiving will be scaled back this year,
only a small group of friends for brunch rather
than a dinner for twelve as is often tradition.

Sarah, You know I share your sentiments about savoring the last days of fall and I love the analogy of "squirrels burying their winter stash"! Poor Thanksgiving does not get its due and I have mixed emotions about Christmas after all my years in retail. I am thankful that I am no longer one of Santa's elves :) I love your beautiful rendered water color fall images. Thanksgiving brunch sounds wonderful for a change of pace, enjoyed with a small group of friends. I have a recipe for a fall French toast that I'm sharing next week that we enjoyed whem my sister was down visiting a couple of weeks ago. I'll look forward to savoring your Autumn bliss. ♥

ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, What a beautiful post, love the images! I don't rush into the Christmas either. I like to give each season/holiday its time. I usually decorate closer to the second week of December. I like to try and do it the way the Victorian's did, but that would mean I wouldn't put the tree up until Christmas Eve, keep it up through The Epiphany and keep the greenery up until Candlemas, the second day of February and this was the traditional ending to the Holiday. That's just all wishful and romantic Victorian thinking though. So we shall see how it goes.

ReplyDeleteI love the water color effects! Gorgeous. I am still deep into fall, no Christmas here, yet, although my kids have white lights strung up in their rooms. Teenagers with a car and money can override my intentions! They actually look very pretty and with today's boho styles, they look like they could stay up all year long...and since teenagers are usually better at putting things up than cleaning things up, they probably will be! ;)

I've really lost my decorating mojo lately - nothing is changing in my decor, and the thought of digging out all those boxes from the attic does't really excite me.
Hopefully my state of mind will change once the world returns to some semblance of order!

Sarah, I just love your watercolor pictures. I can't tell you how pretty they are. I think it is a little too early to start Christmas for me, although the day after Thanksgiving, I will get to it with a vengeance.. I love Christmas the best but autumn and the harvest is pretty to do too so like to give it a little more time. I'm trying not to rush the seasons and to enjoy each one, but my heart must admit to doing Christmas in my mind already!..Happy Weekend..Judy

ReplyDeleteI'm not one to rush the season, but this year I'm having to hold back a little. I'll wait until December 1st, or thereabouts before getting into a little decorating. The Advent calendar and Nativity figures come out earliest. Your images are so gorgeous - love watercolors.

I'm leaving for Ohio on Sunday to cook Thanksgiving dinner for my 86 year old mom. It'll be so nice to to do something for her.

I am true to Fall and I do not decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Fall is so lovely and often Thanksgiving gets pushed to the side. Have a great Brunch. the watercolors are quite lovely.

Hi, Sarah...I never start decorating for C'mas until the day after Thanksgiving. We always have all our children and their families for Thanksgiving and I want it to LOOK like Thanksgiving and not Christmas. This year, several grands that have been out of town in the past will be with us...about 20 if boyfriends don't come...if they do, about 23 will share our table. I am so excited.....

I simply love your pictures in this post, Sarah---they add a sense of magic to the season so many of us love. It seems fall is so fleeting while other's get to us with excessive temperatures that tease, delight and disappoint. I remember many Thanksgiving days that were perfect Indian summer weather. Yesterday we had 11 inches of snow and with temps today of 23, so much of it turned to ice. It makes me sort of give up on fall when my mums are frozen stiff! lol! I am not in any mood to rush into Christmas but I lose so much of my mojo trying to juggle the decorating, shopping, wrapping and social events, I try to do a little bit here and there. And believe me...this is a new strategy, I find it works now.
ReplyDeleteYour Thanksgiving plans sound perfect. On the contrary, we went from small to large as our family has grown and we have started to include extended family to dinner as opposed to just dessert. Tons more work but heck, it's just one day! :)

ReplyDeleteYour photos are just beautiful. Did you use Waterlogue? I have a Pinterest board for pinning Waterlogue and similarly enhanced photos. Several of your photos are already on the board and some of these will be added. Years (and years) ago, I took a watercolor class and loved it.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and continue to enjoy Fall to the fullest before moving into the Christmas spirit.

Love all of your watercolor pics!! I just put fall away and am anxious to pull out holiday decorations!! I hung up my large Santa picture the other day, and the carolers are in the china cabinet. Just got my new Swarovski snowflake in the mail today, so that tree will go up soon!

My upstairs is still all about Thanksgiving, but I must confess that I have started on the basement. Have to holiday home tours coming here this year and I decided this old gal can't work quite as long as she use to. lol! A few hours here and there and a break or two in between.
