🎄 Plaid Tidings, Friends! 🎄

It's early December, and I'm proud to
report our home is looking very festive.
In addition to the usual Christmas decor, I like to
keep a table set, ready for impromptu lunches or dinners.
A recent stop at Home Depot yielded some beautiful
fresh greens already styled and ready to enjoy.
I bought a potted arrangement for the table outdoors
and two kissing balls to pop into containers for inside our home.
All I did was add a tartan bow to the top.
I hung glass balls in a beautiful tartan from our brass chandy.
I saw these at Talbot's 50% off sale, and couldn't resist.
complete with black velvet bows and ready to fill as a holiday favor.
I added the sprig of preserved boxwood for a touch of green.
I used placemats of faux greens and layered them with a stack of dishes in plaids and traditional Christmas reds and greens.

I used my Juliska Chalet Tartan Green napkins
presented in these darling tartan ginger jar napkin rings.
The napkins are classic and tailored with a rich velvet trim.
Instead of guest's place cards, I added
cards for wishing and dreaming.
Sometimes I just like to use meaningful words.

The fresh greens provide the delicate fragrance of the season.
The kissing ball perfectly fits into the bowl of our
MacKenzie-Childs Piece de Resistance tureen.
A tabletop tree of birds and pine cones
sits center stage on the buffet.
The sweet Wendy Addison glittered birds
carry messages for the season.

The twinkle of the tiny lights makes me happy and content.
Battery candles are safe and
perfect for additional added glow.

My German nutcracker comes out every Christmas.
A souvenir my mother brought me from
her trip to Germany in the 70s.
I've collected the antique English tartan napkin rings for years.
I placed a silver tray on the Welsh dresser and
added pieces of silver filled with bottlebrush trees.
The MacKenzie-Childs pocket watch has long been in my collection, but the sterling wishbone at left, a thrifty find in Colorado this past August.
It pinches, and is intended to be used to pick up sugar cubes.
Continuing the Wish Bone theme,
I pulled this nostalgic ornament from my tree
to add to the vignette on the Welsh dresser.
Our first year married, we celebrated Thanksgiving
at my in-laws' home, and they served duck.
My crafty mother-in-law saved the wish bones, painted them gold,
added sequins and gave one to both me and my sister-in-law,
tied to our Christmas presents.
This sentimental piece has hung front and center
on our tree each and every Christmas since.

How serendipitous to have found the tongs on your CO trip. The kissing balls are beautiful, especially in theexquisite Piece de Resistance M-C tureen! I love the tartans and the ginger jar rings are exquisite! The duck wishbone saved for so many years is heartwarming. I love the kissing balls in the MC tureen. So many pretty plaid things, ornaments, napkins, favor boxes and those ginger jar napkin rings are wonderful! Sarah, when I started reading and looking at your beautiful photos, I kept thinking where is her MC...and then I kept opening my eyes in amazement at your beautiful tartan plaid collection and I was in awe. Your pieces are all stunning and I fell in love with the napkin rings. How adorable are they? Of course you did not disappoint as I read through your post as they wondrously appeared...your beautiful MC pieces. Wow! you certainly have a. gorgeous collection of it all. Thank you for the story of the duck and wishbones. How special is that...you know it is the memories isn't it? That is what we treasure during the holidays...the memories of our loved ones and the little things they did that certainly mean a lot in later years. ReplyDeletePlaid at Christmas is definitely a wonderful choice for a Christmas table. I particularly like the napkin rings. I haven't seen anything like them before and they add a special touch to the table. The story of the wishbones is lovely and so wonderful that you have kept them through the years and display them every Christmas. What wonderful memories they evoke. Your idea using kissing balls in containers as arrangements is so clever....I might need to borrow that idea! Your Scottish nutcracker is darling, and I love your plate stacks, too. This is both elegant and cozy and I can imagine the most warm and lively discussion happening here! I love those tartan boxes and that cute drinks carrier. The wishbone is such a treasure. No wonder it is front and center each year. It's personal things like this that make a Christmas tree sing its own songs. (And on another note -- that Quimper tea pot -- that has to be the prize of your collection!)

I'm sure it makes you smile every time you see it. Pretty finds from HD, I picked up fresh greens and enjoy the scent. It reminds me of my childhood and the live tree we always had. The glass plaid balls from Talbot's is a great find and add an extra pop of color to the setting. The plaid boxes make such a pretty finishing touch to your elegant plate stack. The centerpiece is so lovely along with your tabletop trees, they give your home a lovely Christmas glow. I I adore bottlebrush trees and use a lot of them. Your Welsh dresser is lovely! I love tartan and have a few things so I am really enjoying seeing more of your collection. Don't you just love HD for their seasonal greens! I've been there and picked up a few plants along with greenery. The plaid ornaments from Talbots was a great find and I know they look pretty with your tartan theme table. The place setting stack is beautiful and the little tartan boxes are the perfect finishing touch. Sweet idea to use the wishing and dreams cards.
