What do you like
to do on a snowy day?
Ski down
powdery slopes?
powdery slopes?
Hop on a sled
to race down a hillside?
Skate with friends on
a frozen pond?
Build a snowman with
a carrot nose and eyes of coal?
Here in Texas none of these winter
day activities are something we get to enjoy.
Though that doesn't stop me from dreaming about
a day with snowy hills and frozen ponds.
Makes me wonder if artist Betsy Hybicki
lived this scene or only
dreamed of such fun in the snow.
I wish I knew more about her work.

We never have snow here either so it is a foreign concept to me too. It is cold though. I have worn a coat!
ReplyDeleteWe have al the snow and ice that you could want! We used to make mini hills from the snow my husband would clear from the driveway and the kids enjoyed sliding on them. The kids would come in with pink faces, wet snow suits and we'd warm them up with hot cocoa. That's a real cute picture and makes me think about those days.

Guess that's the very same mystery as my Search bog at the top of my blog; for over a month or so it didn't work and I took it off, re-installed it but no results. Yesterday I found it working again!

We lived in Houston 6 1/2 years. It snowed once early in the morning. All the kids were out on the cul de sac at 6:00 AM screaming!

ReplyDeleteWe are headed to the snow on Thursday so we can swish down the slopes of Alta and Snowbird in Utah. California has very little snow except for man made.
Now I am off to check out the Valentine party I see on the side of your blog.
There's no snow at all here, and none expected. If we want snow we can drive up to Mt Washington or take the ferry to the mainland and drive to Whistler. Me? I'm happy to find a beach on the way to work and stop for a few minutes to enjoy the misty sunrise.

Hi Sarah....thank goodness we rarely get snow here in Georgia....our stray cat even refuses to go outside...my crazy husband carried her upstairs and she's asleep on our bed...typical man...can't fathom that being a feral cat she just might have fleas....I would rather host snowmen like you instead of a cat!

ReplyDeleteI would love a snow day but we just keep getting the arctic blast! It's 17 today with a wind chill making it feel like 1 degree!!! My coat is no shield against the wind. Off to wait for the train and let me tell you 13 minutes waiting time is painful!!! It makes me so thankful for shelter.

Oh, my kids are knee high deep in snow about now in Massachusetts. Here in North Carolina it's colder than usual, but no snow.

Ah yes, such a happy picture! I rarely get snow here in coastal SC but my daughter occasionally gets it in NC where she is living. The kids were able to sled today ;-)

ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger i loved to sled, ice skate and even ski on occasion, but I have not done any of those activities in many years. I would be worried I'd hurt my knees now, but I do enjoy a brisk winter walk every day, and of course I bring my camera along to take photos.
We are shipping all our snow to the east this year, and I am missing it. I love winter and I love snow. If it were snowing, I would like to be inside and just watch the snow come down. I love the peaceful, calm feeling it brings. Love the artwork. I also admire your Valentine molds. Joni

We never get any snow in SO CA and I had enough for a life time living in Cleveland, Ohio while I was growing up and then after I got married and we moved back to Chicago. But I do love that picture and it looks so good with you darling snowmen.

We didn't have any snow this year in either Vancouver Oxford, so I love your painting. Sometimes I wish I lived in Montreal or Vermont or someplace that has lovely, crisp snow, but then I think of the cold and think maybe I'll just paint myself a snow painting...lol.

Occasionally we have a few inches of the white stuff but never enough to justify owning pretty whites skates or a sled! ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, what a GREAT FIND! I love this type of art - so folksy and it tells so much about every day life with extraordinary color. You are like me I can tell...you enjoy black frames! Some of my favorite art in my home is laced in black and gold and this piece is stunning.
ReplyDeleteMy dear, I LOVE to cross country ski, be out with the young ones, walk in the snow and breathe in all the freshness. But this winter has been extremely dangerous to be out in! We have had three school cancellations so far state-wide and Monday may be cancelled as well with down to -60 F in upper Minnesota! Here in the Twin Cities, it was -25; I've been outside in that type of cold, but since the upper part of the state gets the worse of it, the whole state just cancels school.
Thank you kindly for coming to leave a message. Art is one of the many things we can do to promote thinking, change and LOVE.

Sarah, it is perfect with you darling snowmen! I have lived this life and it is a real blast! I remember sledding as a kid until my toes were so numb that I could hardly walk. We'd go inside and mom would run them under luke warm water to help thaw us out. Then we'd turn right around and do it again. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

ReplyDeleteI thought about you yesterday....last spring, one of my cute scholars brought me a beautiful yellow hyacinth. After the bloom was spent, I planted the bulb in a big barrel I have beside the drive way.......and forgot all about it. Yesterday, when it was 70° :^(, I was out trimming hedges and such, beneath the old clumpy leaves and junk...lo and behold a sweet pale yellow hyacinth :^).
I was impressed that out of such a mess of winter junk, God could produce such a sweet delicate flower!!

ReplyDeleteActually your charming picture reminds me of when I was growing up. We had a school and playground next door with a great hill to slide down. We would be out well after dark under the streetlights building snowmen and snow forts. Sweet memories. Dawn did good to find this picture that has made so many people smile, I am sure you are delighted with it.

ReplyDeleteOn a snowy day, I like to do the same thing I do on every other day: Sit my hips down in the most comfortable chair in the house and do NOTHING!!!!!!!! :-) Or go shopping. I don't mind wrestling a few snowflakes to go shopping!
