Pink Celebration

Sweet Sixteen Surprise

A Haiku by Hyacinth

Waiting to surprise

Precious daughter of sixteen

Flock of pink delight

September 2009

I came upon this flock of pink flamingos settling in along the walkway to a neighbor's home. I stopped and asked if there was a special occasion. He smiled and said, "My daughter is sweet sixteen today. The flamingos will greet her this afternoon when she arrives home from school." Needless to say I had to record the event for Pink Saturday.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  1. How sweet is that...in our neck of the woods the only time they line the front lawn with flamingos or the like is when you are 40 or 50 or have just had a baby!! Love the idea for a younger milestone!!

  3. That is sweet BUT in my hometown, the Rotary Club would use that as a fundraiser! If you woke up one morning with all those pink flamingos in your yard, you had to PAY (give a donation) to have them removed. It was just a fun way to raise money for a good cause. The whole town supported it whole heartedly.

You sure got some good pics of them. I know it was a beautiful sight. I wonder what their daughter thought when she arrived home!! Too cute,,,

    Have a great weekend

  12. When the blossoms of summer begin to fade we can always count on Pink Saturday to bring a smile to our faces and to remind us that somewhere there are pastels and pretty things.

    Just too cute!

  18. I owe you an apology as I am a new blogger and I just saw a comment you left on my Julie Julia post... several weeks ago. I have to admit I have been a little slow getting the hang of blogging but to totally miss a comment is downright rude. Please except my apology. I am joining your blog and putting you on my blog roll...
I am sorry and hope you will pay me a visit.
