Cherry ~ Cherry Pie


~ Presidents' Day ~
Monday, February 21, 2011


Mondays are also the day to celebrate
the art of Mary Engelbreit over at The Cherry Chick.

With both in mind,
I've set the table with what else but ~
CHERRIES, of course!

Vintage linens, black and white checks, tartan plaid,
and Mary Engelbreit's own cherry inspired dishes.
Definitely a Mary Engelbreit sort of table!

A vintage cloth 
with sassy lacy details . . .

Holds its own below black ruffled
placemats and a bold tartan plaid charger.

Dinner Plate

Salad Plate

Soup or Cereal Bowl

All layered to give the classic 
Mary Engelbreit look.

Add a bit of vintage 
mother of pearl flatware . . .

And a spoon with 
ginkgo leaf detail . . .

A bit more touch of 
tartan plaid for good measure . . .

And a bit more black and white
in my favorite Courtly Check.

The special touch 
of a vintage toast rack . . .

Paired with the acorn leaf details of my
favorite butter knife finish off the setting.

As you munch on a bite of bread and butter before
lunch, lean in closely, I've a little secret to share.

All the dishes on this table were "thrifty" finds!
"Goodwill Hunting" @ 99¢ a piece.

Oh, is that bowl still empty?

How about a cherry pie . . .

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

    LOL...oh Sarah! You have made my morning. I'm scrolling down your adorable post and I just burst out laughing when I see the Cherry Pie in the empty bowl...Perfect!
    I started looking at your Cherry dishes that we thought we had alike but as it turns out yours have more details than the set I have. It's strange that they would make the slight change in details. Yours have the little red wavy edge with the black dots and your salad plate is completely covered with cherries. Mine is white in the center with a single cherry. I think I like yours better but I'm still happy to have mine. I think it's fabulous how you've paired them with the red/green plaid, too. You're so creative! And such an awesome story teller.
    If only you were just down the street I'd pop over for just some toast at your beautiful table setting...lol.

    I love Mary and miss her magazine terribly. She said she still owns the rights to it, so hopefully one day she will be able to bring it back the way Victoria did.

    Her cherry pattern has always made me smile because it is so bright and happy! That's how I felt when looking at your pretty table setting. Thanks for the smile!

    Such happy china - love the red and black together. The 'sassy' vintage cloth is perfect Sarah.

    I too use a toast rack - brought it with me from England a long time ago. A set breakfast table definitely needs a toast rack.......right next to the the butter dish and marmalade pot!!
