How to Eat a Lobster

I recently had a delightful trip

to visit a friend who lives on Cape Cod.

Do you know what that means?

L O B S T E R

You've no idea what a treat

it is for this Texan to have fresh lobster, and just

in case this "foreigner" needed help eating a lobster dinner,

the place setting came with instructions.

And all the necessary tools!

The perfect meal!

Fresh Corn on the Cob ~ Green Salad ~ Fresh Lobster

Oh, and I made certain that most of my

lunches out included a lobster roll.

I have lots of photos to share, so you

can look for more New England delights ahead.

  1. Well, Sarah, I am a Cape Bretoner, and we know lobster. That looks like a delicious one! Lobster rolls are a treat too.
Where I come from, this is how we deal with Lobster:
    - go to the wharf and find someone just in from the traps
-buy the lobsters and take them back to the shack where someone has a pot of water on the boil....or....take them home and boil them
-once they are cooked, spread newspapers on the table. Collect hammer, nut crackers and picks as well as lots and lots of napkins.
    - no need for melted butter or any sides - just dig in!

I hope you enjoyed your lobster! On the rare occasion that we are able to get live Atlantic lobster out here we treat them with a little more ceremony - butter, salad, wine and stories of eating lobster the 'right' way down home.

  2. Mouthwateringly delicious, Sarah, whenever we've visited Maine we've made sure to eat lobster rolls for lunch as often as possible after tasting some of the best with friends from Boothbay.
    Happy M M from Normandy.

  3. Sarah, I don't think I would ever get tired of eating lobster! Wouldn't it be fun to try every lobster roll on the Cape in the never-ending quest for the best one? I love mine just with lobster meat and a dash of mayo, in a grilled (lots of butter) roll. Your friend's house is gorgeous! I am looking forward to seeing many more photos from your trip. Hopefully the next time you are up this way I will be free to see you! Linda

  12. I so miss living in New England for fresh fish and such. We used to go to several outdoor 'clambakes' in Maine each Summer. Those were wonderful evenings complete with fresh lobster and all the trimmings, and lovely sing songs with the staff as we all waited for the pulling of the baked potato which told us the food was cooked and ready to eat. I only ever boiled a lobster once, and that was a struggle placing it into the big pot - never did it again!

Lovely pix Sarah - glad you enjoyed your trip.

  21. I love lobster too and I loved when I had to travel to Boston. I knew that I would be eating lobster everyday.

The lobster on the West Coast isn't as good as the Atlantic lobster.

I am looking forward to see your post on New England.

    Have a great week.

  27. Hi Sarah, I am so happy you had a wonderful visit to Cape Cod and lobster was so available. A dream vacation/visit. Your photos make me drool. We spent a month in Maine and my husband ate a lot of lobster in so many ways. Me...can't eat it. I am so allergic that one bite of my husbands lobster sent me straight to the hospital unable to breathe. Sigh! It tastes sooooo good. It is the iodine content that does me in. I ate lots of blueberry pie though! LOL.
Thank you for joining Blue Monday and being so faithful even when I can't visit. I am home from vacation and happy to be here. My sister and I did have an awesome vacation with family though.

  29. Sarah, I hope you had a wonderful getaway and enjoyed some cooler temperatures along with your lobster! The place setting is adorable!

P.S. The answer I got from WP support is it seems that Blogger has changed the way it pulls the RSS feed. :( Possibly Blogger support could help with the sidebar? On my end the only option would be to reduce my all images to thumbnail size. I noticed that Kitty went to just a text link.

  30. Dearest Sarah,
You no doubt have enjoyed that special lobster meal!
I've lined up a posting about King Crab Legs where we too use our Rösle Seafood Cracker and Lobster Picks.
Always loved eating them, even back in The Netherlands were I still remember a beautiful Sea Banquet with my late husband's company. The Chef had done such a great job in preparing and presenting the food.
Happy for you and looking forward to the other photos.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  42. OH YUMMMMM!

I stayed for 5 days at a friend's home at Cape Cod many years ago -what a fun treat it was to go to the dock and buy lobsters just caught. Honestly - I couldn't believe it happened and can't believe I am fessing up to it - but we ate lobster so much that trip that on the last night I made speghetti with meat sauce, haha. I couldn't eat any more - so rich - so DELICIOUS!

It's funny, I just went out to dinner and had lobster yesterday - now I want more. Now I want to be at Cape Cod! HAHA! Glad you had fun, can't wait to read more.

    Hugs.

  44. Sarah,
This brings back memories of visiting my sister when she lived in New England. First in New Hampshire; then in Maine. Even the lobster rolls at MacDonalds were good! The best ones were from a little walk-up shack just as you cross into Kennebunkport from Kennebunk, Maine. Take out orders only; no inside seating or outside seating other than public areas along the waterway connecting to the Atlantic.

    Your photos are fantastic!
