Let' Dish
about
Black and White
with a touch of Yellow
A few weeks ago, blogging friend
shared her version of a black and white table for summer.
The cupboards at HFTS have plenty
of black and white so I took
Kathe's inspiration and set a B and W table
for a Friday night dinner party with friends.
My stack:
Black Woven Placemats
Pottery Barn chicken wire chargers
MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check chargers
Simple Black Plates and Bowls from the $ Store.
The Sunny Days of August
provided the pop of yellow for the centerpiece.
I looked to my summer garden to provide
a few blooms to pop into my mini Courtly Check pots.
The perfect low centerpiece.
I would have liked to use these
sunshine yellow napkins from World Market,
but alas I only have four of these.
So instead I pulled these
black and white paisley ones into service.
Used my collection of vintage
napkin rings that were a thrifty
"find" at Round Top two years ago.
The beautiful sterling initials
make these very special.
I love the way they compliment my set of
vintage flatware with the French "ivory" handles.
The spoon was a recent find at
an antique shop in New Braunfels.
I picked up a pair of these specifically
to use with these knives and forks.
They are Reed and Barton.
They round out a place setting of six to use with these spoons
that were my antique souvenir from Maine last summer.
The Cherished Home is a wonderful shop in Belfast, ME.
They were having a great sale the day we visited.
These four coin silver chowder spoons were $25 for the set.
The two like this one are marked
Oertelt with crossed swords and the # 12.
A simple TH is the monogram.
An update about coin silver from Johanna @ Silver + Roses.
After reading this post, Johanna created a post about the coin silver flatware that has been in her family for generations. Be sure to stop by Johanna's post here for some interesting insight.
The two in this pattern are
marked Fifield and Brackett
with the monogram "N J Furber".
Dessert offered the opportunity to bring in
more black and white with a touch of yellow.
These cute demitasse spoons are Sabre Paris.
I bring some of this flatware back each time I visit Paris.
It's reasonably priced and
found in several Paris department stores.
For a quick and easy light dessert serve
a bowl of fresh summer berries
topped with whipped cream . . .
Offered with some pretty and tasty treats
from Whole Foods' Artisan Cookie Bar.

Black, white, and yellow (also key lime) is one of my favorite color combinations, so I love what you've done here. The fact that you managed to bring in the same pattern and color in your dessert is nothing short of amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, I love so many things in this post. I have always wanted someof those chicken wire chargers, and of course, the Courtney checks are wonderful, and the yellow flowers are such a perfect pop of color. I have also always loved that ivory flatware, and have searched everywhere for some for myself, but of course, I am searching for a reasonable price and therefore can't find any. Those monogramed napkin rings are so special and they really are perfect with the flatware. I don't remember ever seeing those cute patterned yellow demitasse spoons. Love those too. Can you tell I love everythig on this table? laurie
ReplyDeleteSarah, you KNOW that I would love to be sitting at this table! Lovely flatware! And I have herbs in my CC pots...so now I will consider using them for fresh flowers, too! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteBlack, white and yellow is such a classic combination! This Spring, I became quite smitten with that buttery yellow hue...and the affair continues! This tablescape is stunning!!! As always Miss Sarah, you have the cutest dishes and table settings. LOVE the bandannas, and the pretty yellow flowers are a perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteWait, those are not bandanna's? LOL...they sure could pass for them.
ReplyDeleteDear Sarah,
ReplyDeletethis theme is a nice possibility to show the best of your black and white checked dishes. The Gerbera blooms look like little suns, shining on your table. Beautiful and I love all items, especially the antique ones The napkin rings are treasures and so are the ivory forks. Also your chowder spoons are old treasures. You surely know that they might be true coinsilver. The 12 is an old mark for 800 silver in Germany. What cute flatware is this french one. And the checked cookies are a wonderful addition. Thank you for sharing this wonderful table. Your friends have surely blown away of it.
Best greetings, Johanna

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteYour tablescape is just beautiful...lve those PB chargers and the pretty napkin rings. Thanks fo coming by:)
Blessings,
Linda
What pretty table settings! IUt's such a classic color scheme, yet has a great retro/modern vibe to it. The yellow blooms really perk it up and make it cheerful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous tablescape, black and white with a pop of color is always a winner but the way you've put it all together is stellar.
ReplyDeletePerfect timing for a summer tablescape with the black and white table with the touch of yellow flowers in the darling planters. I see you are visiting some of my antiquing trails in Round Top and New Braunfils. It rained today so out we went to some antique places around Texas. I found 8 Bicentennial plates for $20 and my husband said they would make a great patrotic table. If you are in Round Top at the La Bahia Pavilion or Canton 1st Monday in the civic center check out Flow Blue Brothers and tell them to send you to my favorite couple who sells pink and blue Mason's Vista! These are great people and they have lovely antiques! Gorgeous and creative use of your lovely collections! Happy Antiquing! Pam
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous tablescape! Black and white is so classic and the pop of yellow is lovely!
Rebecca
Sarah, what a beautiful table setting. Black and white is a colour I wouldn't normally use, but you have persuaded me otherwise. Your French cutlery with the ivory handles are absolutely beautiful. What a treat. Best Wishes Daphne

ReplyDeleteDear Sarah,
ReplyDeletethank you so much for the link.
Best greetings, Johanna
Your table is so pretty. I always think of black as being so formal . . . I am now inspired to play around with in. A few years ago I was in the bargain section of a kitchen shop and spied a stack of woven black place mats. Do you believe they were priced as close-out 10 cents a piece. Well, I bought the whole stack . . . around 15 or so. I thought they would be nice for Thanksgiving or for when I wanted to set a formal table. Thanks for sharing your lovely table-scape . . . now I am going to have some fun seeing what idea I can come up with that has a more casual twist. Have a great day, Connie :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I adore your ivory flatware.
What a lovely table. The little touches of yellow really make a difference. I love the little yellow spoons and those napkins rings are just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing, Sarah.
ReplyDeleteHello Sarah, Thank you for the lovely compliment on my bedroom re-do. I'm glad that I left the door, too. Thank you so much for following my blog, I truly appreciate the encouragement and support. Connie :)
ReplyDeleteSarah, I have been gone to much to do any tables for a few weeks but so glad to have a few minutes to visit my blogging friends. CRAZY! ReplyDeleteThis tablescape is fabulous! It has to be one of my all time favorites!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you came and linked this wonderful table setting loaded with colors!
ReplyDeleteSarah, thank you for stopping by and wishing me well. I love and adore silver and pewter and was given by my dear mil her set and her great grandmamere's set. I discovered that the more lead it has, the higher or deeper blue the pewter takes on with age.
ReplyDeleteLooking for that yummy checker board short bread cookie recipe. Perfect for a southern tea quilt party here in the south.
Happen to have a link for that?
Thanks for following and will follow you too!
with love,
Cotton Peony

It seems you thought of everything including the fabulous desserts that match so well. Thanks for the nice comment about my doll collection. You said you played with paper dolls. Well, I enjoyed them, too. My Mom had played with paper dolls as a child, even designing clothes for them, so she passed the love of playing with them to me. Thank you for visiting. I enjoy your blog very much. There is always something lovely to see.---------- Shannon
