Monday Morning Blooms ~ Embrace The Hues of Autumn

Welcome to Monday Morning Blooms!
~ Embrace the Hues of Autumn ~

As always, I'm honored to be included as a
"Guest Bloomer" for Monday Morning Blooms.
Pam, Lidy and Mary are very talented floral designers and stylists who showcase their flower talents on the first Monday of every month.

"
If you are familiar with my blog, you know I'm passionate
about fresh flowers, dishes, and holiday collectables.

My local Central Market displayed this magnificent
topiary in their fresh flower department.
I wanted to recreate someing like this, but on a much
smaller scale for October's Monday Morning Blooms.

I gathered up the small, tabletop urns that I've picked up through
the years, added an oasis, and set about planning
something to create for my table.

Trader Joe's is often my go to source for fresh flowers,
so I grabbed bouquets of fresh autumn blooms.
~ mums ~ ornamental chamomile ~
~ ranunculus ~ micro poms ~ eryngium ~

My small urns could not accomodate baby pumpkins, but they were the perfect perch for black crows, the theme I chose for this October.

The morning temps have cooled,
so join me out on our terrace.

White summer geraniums are still holding on in this planter,
and many squirrels frequent my terrace.

I don't mind these vintage concrete squirrels.
They are welcome year round!

This whimsical baby squirrel delights, but I'm not happy with live babies digging in my containers to bury acorns for their winter stash.

I truly embrace the hues of autumn, especially
the range of oranges and touches of yellow.

The inspiration for a crow theme was sparked when my pair of MacKenzie-Childs Limited Edition Monthly Mugs
for September arrived in the mail.

I was at first suprised because I was expecting the mugs
to be an orange stripe and check like the photo, and similar
to the rusty orange of the new Ginger Check.

The crows stole my heart though,
and honestly, I've always embraced brown.
The mugs offer a lovely accent paired with my redware crow plates
that have been among my dish stash for decades.

The crow plates were massed produced
by Creative Co-Op, and are beautifully made.
They are perfect for fall tables.

The Gourmet Settings flatware is heavy and an interesting mix of shiny stainless with matte black handles in a treble clef motif.
The flatware was a gift from Michael Lee, talented published author and friend from my early days of creating this blog.
You can find Michael Lee on Instagram @joylessons.

The  Priscilla Hoback clay mural that hangs on our terrace
wall perfectly captures a morning wake up, as does
this favorite needlepoint pillow.

Pierre, a souvenir from a years ago
Haunted Hudson Valley
visit joins me at the table.

Notice the charmig blackbird featured on the
John Derian Birds and Acorns quilted throw
from last year's John Derian for Target.
Ok, I realize it's not cool enough for a throw
this morning, but a girl can dream.

Let's take a closer look at the flowers, since today is after all
Monday Morning Blooms.

Adding the oasis within each urn not only allowed stability for the blooms it also provided constant hydration for the delicate
flowers and a base for this crow to have a safe perch.
I'm amazed how long these blooms have stayed fresh and vibrant.

The velvet crows were found at
Michael's at 60% off sale.

This guy easily perches
along the rim of the taller urn.

I also purchased a few of the larger crows with real feathers.
This one adds a whimsical touch to this basket of marigolds.

Another one perches on a pumpkin centerpiece for my
Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop
Caw, Caw ~ Spread Your Wings For Halloween
post that will be live tomorrow morning here on the blog.
I hope you will come back to join me along with a dozen
other bloggers who will share inspiration for Halloween.

I moved the urns of flowers inside to the entry chest.
I enjoy the way the sunlight glistens in
and creates a beautiful new setting.
Every home needs fresh flowers.

Spread your wings and fly on
over to my friend's links below.

  1. Good morning Sarah! Your terrace is a lovely setting for Monday Morning Blooms and I know the cooler weather offers you a respite to enjoy outdoors. Thank you for sharing Central Market’s magnificent topiary! It is definitely a wow! Your trio of urns make a stunning display of mums, chamomile, ranunculus, micro poms and eryngium. The vintage concrete squirrels behave, but those live ones will dig and also nibble on our picnic table! Like you, I embrace the ranges of oranges and yellows. The crows are a whimsical addition, and a couple may have flown over to my Halloween table. Pierre is a handsome guest at your table. As I say often say, your attention to detail is amazing.

It is always a pleasure to have you join us for Monday Morning Blooms…Happy Fall!

  3. Good morning Sarah, Where to begin?! Your arrangements are gorgeous…that ranunculus makes my heart beat faster…oh to have a Trader Joe’s nearby. Love the addition of crows and your new MKC blackbird mug, it’s perfectly paired with your redware crow plates. Your terrace is such an inviting setting for a meal, tea or any refreshment…and that tablecloth is beautiful! So fun to see all your autumnal touches and accents. Pierre is sitting pretty on your checked chair with your quilted throw!
I’m with you on the squirrels, I prefer concrete version too. :) They are so destructive…most recently to our boat!
Thank you for joining us today, it’s always treat to share some flower therapy with you! Looking forward to see what you have in store tomorrow!๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿงก

  4. Happy October, Sarah! Your arrangements are so beautiful, those colors are everything! The crowns add such a fun touch, I don’t mind yours, they are lovely, the real ones make me a little crazy at times…they are S O loud! But yours are a fantastic accent to your bright autumn flowers.

Your new MKC blackbird mug is a perfect pairing with those crow plates, together they’re a great match. What a beautiful and inviting terrace- it is such a warm and inviting place for morning coffee, lunch, and dinner. You’ve decorated it so lovingly. Wishing you an October filled with memory making times with friends and family, cozy afternoons and evenings and a sprinkling of magic, too! Xo Lidy

  5. Sarah, your MMB arrangements are beautiful! Making your own from the individual bunches purchased took some time, I'm sure. I love the adornment of crows for the October mood, and can't wait to see your table tomorrow. The Creative Co-op redware plates are quite special too. I would have been very disappointed thinking I was getting ginger check only to see the mugs be brown. It's probably a good thing you ordered two so at least they match. Do they complement your Wittika Peanuts pattern?

  6. So charming Sarah. The flowers look lovely in your urns. That topiary urn is a showstopper. What fun plates the Creative Co-op red ware are. Love your added crows. Your MKC mugs are darling and fit in perfectly for this table. How special to be able to enjoy an alfresco meal. Your pumpkin is so darn cute. Looking forward to seeing your table tomorrow.

  7. Hi Sarah! Your collection of urns look so pretty filled with Autumn hued flowers. The crow adds a touch of whimsy. Those new MKC crow mugs go so perfectly with your plates! They’re a match made in Autumn Heaven! Of course your terrace looks so pretty and yes we can dream of cooler temperatures and the need for a cozy quilt. Thank you for sharing your style with us.

  9. I never buy any bird figures with real feathers, I read that families were separated and traumatized by killing them just for using their feathers for decorations.

  10. Sarah, I love your theme for this post. The floral arrangements are stunning, and I love the crows! I ordered one of the crow mugs, and I was surprised by the color because I was expecting it to be like the new ginger pattern. But I think it looks great with your redware crow plates. Honestly they match perfectly, don't you think? Everything is so pretty, and I enjoy seeing your pretty collections. Happy autumn! ~RJ

  11. Everything in this post speaks October to me, and I always enjoy seeing your pretty collections. I haven't seen the crow mug in person but it looks nice with your crow plates. I'm going on the Mackenzie-Childs production tour in a couple weeks, and I'll inquire about the color of the crow mugs. I've heard several people say that they thought it would be like the new ginger color.

  12. I can see why you were inspired by the urn flower arrangement you saw Sarah, but I actually like yours better! I'm a color lover, and I love the flowers and colors you chose for your arrangements. The crows are the perfect touch!
