As we recognize Memorial Day 2025,
I reached back into my archives of past posts.
This post was created for Memorial Day 2020,
when we were in the midst of a pandemic.
There were no large gatherings, nor the usual parades.
My husband was not his usual healthy self,
yet we enjoyed a table for two out on our terrace
in remembrance of the brave men and women
who served and gave their lives for our country.
Originally begun after the Civil War in the 1860s
and known as Decoration Day, it gradually became known as
Memorial Day and a National Holiday.
Celebrated on the last Monday in May,
it also welcomes the unofficial start of summer.
Memorial Day marks the first of several
American patriotic summer holidays,
and traditionally I bring out red, white, and blue and
create patriotic vignettes to enjoy through Labor Day.
The beautiful paper products of Hester and Cook
are from the Love Letter series.
They seem appropriate to honor those
lost in wars through the years.
I selected one of my vintage napkin rings
with an F monogram for Freedom.
The other napkin ring, an L for Liberty.
A table of red, white, and blue seemed fitting and inviting.

Dinner Plates ~ Juliska Country Estate Blue
Flatware ~ MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check
Red and White Napkins ~ Su La Table
Blue Napkins ~ Sue Fisher King from the 90s
Striped Linen Tablecloth ~ Crown Linen Designs
I set a dessert table too.
The vintage table cloth is another hand
embroidered piece from my mother.
Beautiful bee embroidered cocktail napkins
are from Crown Linen Designs,
destined to be heirlooms for future generations.
As is this Crown Linen Designs hand towel.

My very special Bee Brave Bear, created by
Bobbie @ Rolling Hills Cottage and Studio,
is here to remind us to be brave like those who
serve in the Armed Forces of our country.
On Monday, take a moment of silence at 3pm to
remember all the brave men and women who
gave their lives so we can live in freedom.

What beautiful images, Sarah. We are so blessed to live in a country where freedom means we can come and go as we please and live as we wish. Sadly, it has all be paid for by the brave men and women who have fought for freedom for all of us. Blessings- Diana
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post - On Memorial Day I always think of my cousin Richie who died in Vietnam while serving our country .
ReplyDeleteSarah, this was a beautiful message and loved your reflection back a few years. How memorable for you. You’re always so full of beauty not only in photos of your vignettes but your words as well. Be blessed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday Sarah, I love your patriotic table celebrating our liberty and freedom. Your Courtly Check owl and rabbit are dressed in fine fashion with a shout out to the red, white and blue. God Bless our Nation’s Gold Star families who lost their loved ones protecting our freedoms. 🙏⭐ Wishing you a wonderful week ahead❤️🤍💙
ReplyDeleteYour table, as always, is beautiful. But what I love most of all are the sweet memories. I hope yesterday was lovely for you.
