Put a Little Pink In Your Day!

With the official first day of spring still two weeks away, I picked up this sweet little African violet to provide a bit of cheer on the gray days we continue to have of late. The African violet, with its velvety leaves and dainty blooms, is one of the easiest of house plants. It seems to like the conditions within most houses and provides a sparkle of joy as it continuously produces delicate blooms of blue or purple or pink, like this one. These plants don't require direct sunlight and are perfect sitting on a windowsill. I've learned over time that they also don't like to be wet, and that it is best to water them from a saucer below. So if you are looking to add a bit of color to brighten what is left of our winter days, then I suggest you too pick up one of these easy care little bloomers. It's a sure fire way to put a little pink in your day!

Thanks to Beverly @ How Sweet the Sound for hosting our Pink Saturdays. Beverly suggests that we try to visit some of the new participants each week to meet new friends and then link to them in a future post. So today I want to introduce you to a new blog I recently discovered through Pink Saturday.

Petite Little Bee is the blog of a San Francisco girl who is a lover of everything beautiful. With San Francisco being one of my favorite US destinations, I was smitten from the first visit. Click here and you will see that Petite Little Bee is truly pinkalicious.

  1. Happy Pink Saturday Sarah Sweetie...
I so love your post. This pink violet is just beautiful. The blooms are so open and gorgeous. They are definitely screaming "SPRING". The color is so soft and elegant.

Thank you for the wonderful instructions on the care of one. I have often wandered about them, but never truly had any instructions on their care. I might be able to have one of these at work under the artificial light then.

Thank you for sharing sweetie. I will keep you posted if I get one, and let you know how it does. I may call on you for assistance. Happy Pink Saturday.

    Country hugs sweetie...Sherry

  4. WEll, I'm hopeless with flowers (usually kill them with kindness) so your advice is SO helpful. I think I might dare to try again - and the colour is beautiful. A very nice (and helpful) post. Happy Pink Saturday!

  5. Hello, dear Sarah,
I can see why you bought that pretty pink violet! What a great way to brighten up these winter days! I took one to school one time, and it did beautifully. It must have loved all of those children admiring it. Happy Pink Saturday and enjoy a fun weekend! Vicki

ps: I have not done a post about the silver tea service on my buffet yet. I'm waiting to get a new camera so I can get some really nice photos of it. I think I've finally decided which one to buy! :D

  7. Sarah,

What a lovely little violet. I may have to try again with the saucer on the bottom. My mother grew them for years and swore that the secret to her success was to add a little skim milk to the water occasionally!

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  9. Your African violet is just beautiful in the silver container. You are right about watering it from the bottom. Hmmm, I do have a pot with a saucer with holes. It's Saturday. I might have to do a little garden shopping!

  13. I love a pink flowering plant. My daughter-in-law passed her African Violet on to me when she and my son moved to Ontario, and so far it lives!
Today will truly be a pink day here, as it's our daughter's 23rd birthday - and the theme is always a bit pink!

  14. Lovely violets, they not only remind me of Spring, but of my Mother, she always had violets blooming and when I left home attempted to do the same. They are a bugger to grow...but once to get it down pat...they are fabulous!
I think I will head to the store now and brighten my home with some pretty pink violets!
    Happy Pink Saturday! xOxO Nerina

  19. Loved the Pink Violet, Sarah. My aunt raised violets and gave me starts of them. I had them for many years and enjoyed them so much. Don't have any right now...mmmmm it's about time tho...the snow and freezes claimed nearly all of my plants this year.
