Vignettes from Christmases Past

It's December 1st

and time to start thinking about

Christmas 2013.

Sadie and I hope you enjoyed our look back

and perhaps inspired you to add a touch of

tartan to your own holiday vignettes?

This season as we deck the halls here @ HFTS

my heart will be filled with mixed emotions.

My sweet mother passed away Thanksgiving Morning.

Hearts ache with the loss but are also filled with gratitude

and pride for the legacy Mother leaves behind.

She was 99 years old, lived a joyful life,

and was dearly loved by those who knew her.

No question I will feel her spirit beside me

as I decorate the tree and add little touches

of tartan among this year's holiday vignettes.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  2. Oh dearest Sarah, I too have had the quirkiest blog roll for MONTHS now! For the longest time, I have not received new posts and then older posts pop up at the top! I wish I knew how to fix it!

Now for this lush post....I LOVE PLAID! And every item here is reminiscent of a time when I lived in Boston and I would see such decorations on Newbury St....oh, those were the days!

Thank you so much for coming to leave me a message today, the FIRST OF DECEMBER! I cannot believe that another year has gone by this quickly. Enjoy all of your festivities my dear friend! Anita

  12. Sarah,
Prayers for comfort and peace are coming your way, dear friend!
I, too, lost my MoMa at Thanksgiving 19 years ago. While it was a terribly sorrowful time, God's timing was perfection. Being adopted as a child, I have always been grateful that I was selected as her daughter. Each Thanksgiving, I again, give thanks to God for the gift of my MoMa. . .but best friend!
I adore your tartan plaid...and those Santa molds are charming!
I've been missing you. . .glad I came loking for you, today!!!
    Fondly,
