To Market, To Market

To market, to market, to buy a good dinner,
Thoughts of a menu to help us get thinner.

Though it's still very warm here in Texas,
as evenings begin to cool with pleasant breezes
we can once again enjoy alfresco dining on the terrace.

My little wooden pig with his cart full of veggies
inspired the theme for this summer table.

I pulled in a linen scarf that features veggies
to use as a table topper over a green tablecloth.

These little rectangular plates
are the perfect size for a small meal.

Hand painted by local artists, they
add a bit more whimsy to the vegetable theme.

I layered them atop pewter chargers and
colorful plates and linens to compliment
the bright colors of the garden theme.

Mustard Yellow with Aubergine

Aubergine with Fern Green

Flying pig candlesticks
to offer a bit more whimsy.

Dinner is a salad of crispy greens
with orange and yellow peppers,
red onions, and zesty radishes

Along with a steamed salmon steak

To complete this healthy,
colorful, and tasty meal.

Served with a glass of
Chateau St. Michelle Chardonnay

Perfection for a late summer meal.

The summer we married, my husband was in graduate school, and I was employed as a teacher. We took a portion of our savings that summer and purchased a sailboat. We christened our Catalina 22, “Hyacinths For The Soul” after Saadi’s poem. Our "Hyacinths" provided years of pleasure.

  12. Sarah~ I love your To Market table! I ADORE your colorful scarf topper and festive pig plates! So fun and colorful...Hurray for alfresco dining! It's been stormy and humid here for a week~ not favorable conditions for enjoying an outdoor meal but I'm hopeful we'll be able to do it again sooner rather than later, or before pigs fly :)

  13. Sarah, I adore that last photo. Such a relaxing feeling! The linen scarf that features veggies is great as a topper. I bought an April Cornell scarf for $1.00 at a house sale, and have used it as a topper. I love it!
